Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

I'm not raining on your parade though. I always figured something like this tech would come around. Just imo can't see it in the near future, to the public anyhow.

I can see this maybe military operation training.
When I joined the Army in 2001 our VR sims were Nintendo duck hunt... lmao no lie.

I just hate seeing new domain investors go chomping at the bit on names that make no sense. Anyway off topic.
subjot, the original guy you quoted, already sold RapidVR.com for $1000.

I never quoted anyone besides you. But hey good catch though on the 1k to the guy, that doesn't mean everyone will get that....im still not seeing what Rapid has anything to do with Virtual Reality. but you know buyers be crazy sometimes lol

theres this thing called Rapid Virtual Reality tech and prototyping.
RVR is used in software being developed by a Synthonics subsidiary for dental and medical diagnosis and treatment planning. Another application of the technology is being used to develop a multimedia CD-ROM for the Smithsonian Institution that will feature 3-D replicas of museum artifacts.

I'm happy when domainers make a little pocket change. All im saying is trends get people stuck with reg fees. None of my business though what people do with their own money.
Congratulations on all your sales honest.

Thank you, but it's not my sales. I'm just reported.

I have an Oculus Rift DK2 development unit, and it is 100% incredible. No doubts about the way it's going to change everything in the future.

On the real though if your net worth is in the Billions... I think its fair to say you can take a chance on a few investments. I did watch some seminars on the rift and the thing looks fun albeit laggy but I am sure that fix is in the works.

What is your take on it DComplex, did they work the lag issues out?

The main cause of lag today is mainly for two reasons:
1. computer hardware
2. the performance demands of individual games and demos

Although it's just a development kit right now, it's capable of running much smoother than you think. As long as your computer can handle whatever game you're running, it's lag-free. And I personally haven't had a case of nausea or motion sickness yet.

The Oculus Rift (consumer version, looking to be released late next year) is going to be released as a seated experience. It's going to be for gaming because, frankly, gamers make up most of the population who already have a fast computer with a gaming graphics card. If you do your research, you can build one that can handle the Oculus Rift without much lag for $600-700 and up.

After it becomes more mainstream, it'll expand to other forms of entertainment for sure.

Right now, indie developers make up most of the available demos and games. The best experiences I've had with the Rift are the ones where the developer's priority and focus is smoothness rather than realistic graphics.

From what I have heard and am predicting, Oculus is partnering with hardware and software companies to make this as cheap as possible to everyone when the Rift is released.

If you haven't heard, Oculus has partnered with Samsung and has worked very, very closely with them this year on creating their first product: Gear VR. Oculus played a GIANT part in building and developing the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (which is now available) so that it will act both as a smartphone AND as a virtual reality device. It looks amazing.

Gear VR is supposed to be released this year.

If you don't believe in VR yet: Just wait until you try it. Then you will understand.

Also: in terms of domains, I think it's going to be huge because the short acronym: vr. It's not a long prefix or suffix as "print" or "3dprint" or the like.

Do you remember when iPods and iPhones and iAnything came out? Just adding a simple "i" to any keyword was a huge hit.

Thanks for the description.... I am reminded of the movie Wall-E.... everyone ends up a lazy ass in the future.
Just put a headset on and play golf in your chair or run on a trail! lol bizarre

I actually never really got into tech jargon untill after the military... in the service we didn't call our equipment civilian names. And we dang sure didn't get no iPhones lol

But yea I am all for innovation. Bring it on!

I recorded a video of my mother using the Oculus Rift, and the demo is a simple carnival thrill ride. Although she's seated in a chair in my living room, she's screaming the ENTIRE time--and she held onto dear life with her hands on the edge of her seat.

That sounds awesome...... But do you think when your equilibrium gets use to the changes. That the thrills will be reduced?

Not exactly sure how they're going to approach that one, but I suppose they could create some guidelines for official games and experiences.

My mom wasn't about to have a heart attack, though--she said it was really fun and felt like she was actually on the ride, hundreds of feet in the air.

It's insane what this technology can and could do.

"I'm excited to announce that we've agreed to acquire Oculus VR, the leader in virtual reality technology.

Our mission is to make the world more open and connected. For the past few years, this has mostly meant building mobile apps that help you share with the people you care about. We have a lot more to do on mobile, but at this point we feel we're in a position where we can start focusing on what platforms will come next to enable even more useful, entertaining and personal experiences.

This is where Oculus comes in. They build virtual reality technology, like the Oculus Rift headset. When you put it on, you enter a completely immersive computer-generated environment, like a game or a movie scene or a place far away. The incredible thing about the technology is that you feel like you're actually present in another place with other people. People who try it say it's different from anything they've ever experienced in their lives.

Oculus's mission is to enable you to experience the impossible. Their technology opens up the possibility of completely new kinds of experiences.

Immersive gaming will be the first, and Oculus already has big plans here that won't be changing and we hope to accelerate. The Rift is highly anticipated by the gaming community, and there's a lot of interest from developers in building for this platform. We're going to focus on helping Oculus build out their product and develop partnerships to support more games. Oculus will continue operating independently within Facebook to achieve this.

But this is just the start. After games, we're going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face -- just by putting on goggles in your home.

This is really a new communication platform. By feeling truly present, you can share unbounded spaces and experiences with the people in your life. Imagine sharing not just moments with your friends online, but entire experiences and adventures.

These are just some of the potential uses. By working with developers and partners across the industry, together we can build many more. One day, we believe this kind of immersive, augmented reality will become a part of daily life for billions of people.

Virtual reality was once the dream of science fiction. But the internet was also once a dream, and so were computers and smartphones. The future is coming and we have a chance to build it together. I can't wait to start working with the whole team at Oculus to bring this future to the world, and to unlock new worlds for all of us."
