Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

I'm not so optimistic. The virus may last for a while. The upstream and downstream fields are affected, and the number of powerful buyers has decreased a lot.
budget cut down in every major cooperation and small business are closing down it will take a year or two for the economy to rise again Allot of supply and very low demand unless you have a very special domain it will be very hard to sell anything

Pretty big acquisition in the VR space. NextVR was under financial pressure. Many companies, especially in this niche of broadcasting live in VR, seem to have gone under or been acquired when facing bankruptcy. Sporting events are cancelled, but unfortunately there isn't the VR userbase yet to transition the games over to VR. It's a great idea, though I wish companies would budget more carefully for the long haul. On the other hand, Apple doesn't have budget issues and can grab this low-hanging fruit. Next purchase to be Magicleap? :greedy:

Also, interesting to note that Steve Jobs founded the similarly named company NeXT after he was kicked out of Apple. When he was brought back into Apple, Apple acquired NeXT and NeXT.com. Now Apple owns the VR version of the domain. (y)

Apple's acquisition just shows that VR is doing absolutely great, with this acquisition it looks like a great time to buy VR domains.

If books/TV shows/movies are anything to go by (Ready Player One/Mindwarp/Metaverse), VR should be thriving right now in a dystopian world where people have to remain indoors and self-isolate, obviously the world isn't as bad as the world in some of these stories, but this should be VR's chance to thrive.

Trouble is it's still not good enough, i still believe the potential of VR though, I think PS5 is going to be great for the growth of the tech.

with due respect, vr was future tech before virus.. wth years of develping ahead.. so this will not now magicically accelerate due to virus and more need for people to go virtual. if anything it will slow down vr progress... this applies to all things not just VR.
everything is slowed down now.. on hold.. and delayed.

Netflix subscriptions has seen rise, online gaming as seen a rise, people staying indoors and watching TV as seen a rise. VR is entertainment, a chance for people to still experience different things just like the real world; it should also have seen a rise!

I'm an advocate as much as anyone that VR is the future and have put my money where my mouth is on that investing a large chunk of my savings in virtual tech, but VR is not on hold or delayed It's just not advanced enough in terms of quality and people don't want to have something the size of a house brick strapped across their face for long periods, especially now the weather is picking up.

If VR was glasses and close to being indistinguishable from reality (we are still many years from that though), during a global pandemic/where many countries have had lockdown measures in place for the past 2 months, VR should and would be thriving.

Potenital of VR/AR gives people the chance to still be with their familys like they are in the same room:-

Pefect for times like this, we just arn't there yet.

i get it
i was just saying vr is and was future tech before virus. even more so now.

on the other hand if vr was already more developed before virus... or alternatiely, if virus hapened say 5 years from now, an event like this could literally be the super fuel to send sales and popularity of VR into cosmos! :)

@Kingslayer The quest and index sold out so it did the maximum that supply chain would allow. We have to wait until the manufacturing + the userbase ramps up to reach critical mass. At least 100 million active users, but once we get to 500 million to 1 billion XR users, the industry will really start to explode.

Looking at this chart, it seems like it usually takes 10 years for new tech to reach 50% adoption. Unfortunately XR is more complicated than a microwave, but Apple will push things forward in a couple years. I tried to do some WebXR stuff in my WMR VR headset the other day, and I couldn't even get it to work.

I'd like to buy a Quest, but it's not available for me to buy. On the most recent Facebook earnings call Zuckerberg said:

"... on the virtual reality side, this has always been a long-term vision. Quest has surpassed our expectations. I wish we can make more of them faster during this period. I do think that it's one of those areas where as people can't go out into the world as much, the ability to have technology that allows us to be physically present or feel present even when we can be physically together, whether that's Quest or Portal or any of the software that we're building around video presence that stuff is certainly seen especially large spikes in usage and it's possible that this brings accelerate some of the trends around adoption of things like virtual or augmented reality. But I'm not sure what will happen there long-term? But in the near term, I'm quite pleased with how Quest is doing and I wish we could make more of them."

It’s not about how many headsets that sell, people can buy an headset but rarely use it, what good is that for the future growth of VR? It’s all about keeping people actively using their headset, regualrly buying apps (supporting new content) and wanting to keep upgrading their headset like they do their smartphones every year.

I’ve bought a VR headset but haven’t used it in about 6 months.

Playstation VR has been a massive success though in that people buy the headset and carry on using their headset and want more; I’m hoping VR on PS5 will be an even bigger success.

@Kingslayer I'm mostly the same. I just have a $200 headset I use for research, sitting next to me now as I write, but it's such a pain to set up and crashes my laptop so much, I don't bother with it. Still, I'm not disillusioned. I know it's just a matter of time. You said "People can buy a headset" well yeah, they can get crappy headsets. I'm saying the newest and best iterations of the hardware that are actually decent have largely been unavailable or too expensive / complicated.

The Quest is the superior design for the general populace - a whole system all in one. People who bought an Oculus Go used it quite a bit. I don't think we've gotten numbers on Quest usage, just hints that the stats are very good. Who here on this forum even has a Quest to speak on it? I read that in the last few weeks, most all countries with Oculus distribution can buy a Quest now, except in the USA it's still backordered. The next model Quest will likely be announced during the Oculus Connect in September.

I was really disappointed none of the Indy or Nascar drivers were using HMD's for those virtual iracing series. None that I saw anyway.

I agree with this. On the hardware side, Quest has been a resounding success. It hardly remains in stock most of the time. Oculus is now definitely focused on better iterations of Quest. Other competitors as well will jump into the "Standalone" market pretty soon.
The software side seems to be lacking, but Half-Life Alyx has definitely made a dent as far as quality is concerned. And it's there to stay, get better. get copied in design etc. I'm also quite bullish on Fb Horizons.. seems like a passion project for Zuck- an attempt at the Oasis if you will.
