Ok the UN says the US is being stingy and should raise taxes to give more money and AID to other countries. I say screw that stop giving them AID and start giving it to the homeless in the US of A.

The ONLY countries we should help is the ones who dont have an anti-US attitude and the ones who have stuck behind us in this war on terror.

Once again, I must state, I never complained the USA or anyone else wasn't doing enough. I simply posted the stats and defended Canada's position.

If you're unwilling or unable to accept that your comments were not focused on policy but were personal and pointed attacks on America and Americans... or that Canada has offered in relief just a fraction of what the U.S. has offered... there's nothing more one can say.

Who gets to take the Penalty Shots ?

U.S. - $35 million and 12 ships

Australia - $26 million

Canada - $1 million... other links say $4 million so we'll give you the benefit of the doubt... $4 million.

United Arab Emirates - $2 million.

Let's see, the pop. of Canada is 32 million (http://www.canadainfolink.ca/canmap.htm#pop) and population of the UAE 2.3 million (http://www.arab.de/arabinfo/uae.htm). Someone help me with the math... Canada has a population how many times larger than the UAE but they are only giving twice as much??? Is that like 14 times bigger? Tsk...tsk...

Again, maybe you should go take care of what's going on in your own backyard before you criticize your neighbor.

It's not a contest about who's contributing the most, every country should contribute a decent amount to help with this.

if you disagree with the leader and therefore running of a country, technically yes it does....

Well that means when A democrat is president, all the republicians are anit-american? and vice versa? Geez, back to the McCarthy era..

Just because you disagree with the leader means nothing.. If he wanted a cabinet full of yes-men.. or any leader (business owner or town council), I would call them fools.

If you do the Hanoi-Jane bit of trashing american just because it is america, right, wrong or indiferent, that is anti-American...

I disagree with alot of presidental policy and ideals, but I am a American and damn proud of it.. The American is not the embodiment of the president, it is the embodiment of the people. The pres is just the popular spokesman..

Well, the point is, every country should dig deeper and find more money, IMO.

The current donations are good, but can and SHOULD be raised even more.

$500 Million donated in total so far, and MUCH more is needed, so let's stop arguing:).

The Canadian Government also agreed to match every donation made by Canadian individuals to organizations such as World Vision, the Red Cross and Oxfam.

Another step in the right direction :)

That's awesome! :tu:

I was watching Powell last night and he said the relief could reach $1Billion before all is done. I'm not sure if he meant the U.S. alone or all nations in total.

I hope some of relief money (or additional monies if needed) is used to rebuild these areas with more modern materials and with better infrastructure! I'm reading the relief is hampered by massive amounts of debris (from wooden homes, stores, other structures) and there aren't any modern roadways.

Of course, this is a secondary opportunity after other assistance is offered but saving lives from future earthquakes and tsunamis would be invaluable! :tu:
