Republican Congressman Falls for Ridiculous Conspiracy That Trudeau Has Fled to America

"A U.S. congressman appears to have convinced himself that Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has fled to the States in fear of a group of truck drivers who are protesting vaccine mandates. In two Twitter posts, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) even called on the U.S. to deport Trudeau, even though the PM is not in the country. CNN reports that Roy fell for a baseless conspiracy theory posted by an anonymous Twitter account on Saturday. The original tweet showed a photo of Trudeau in the U.S. in 2016, and wrongly used that as evidence that he’d fled from ongoing vaccine protests. Firstly, Roy quoted that tweet and added the caption: “Is there a more gutless and cowardly display than a tyrant on the run?” A day later, he posted: “If Justin Trudeau is hiding in the United States, we should return him to Canada and make him face his own people immediately.” However, as would be expected, Trudeau is in Canada. Two hours before Roy tweeted, the PM even held a news conference from his official residence in Quebec."

Trying to force someone to stop forcing you to do something, makes sense.
Milk is 5.89 a jug now, oil over $5 a liter, gas 1.60 a litre multiply by 3.78 to get Biden gallon
My trucker friend from Lithuania texted me. You dont support them do you? Were all in this together.
No support here. If I see a trucker today, honk honk, he is working.
Gonna be a big convoy going through town today

This is the message from the truckers... they just want to sit down and talk with the PM (@15:00 he clarifies that an overthrow of the government was never on the table)

An Ipsos poll published Thursday and conducted exclusively for Global News showed that nearly 46 per cent of Canadians say they “may not agree with everything” the trucker convoy says or does, but the frustration of protesters is “legitimate and worthy” of sympathy.

As far as political inclinations go, the polling showed 59 per cent of Conservative voters agree with the frustration expressed by the convoy protesters, while 44 per cent of Bloc, 43 per cent of NDP and 30 per cent of Liberal voters are aligned with the view that the convoy protesters deserve sympathy.

Those aged 18 to 34 who sympathize with the truck convoy protesters are at 61 per cent, while those aged 35 to 54 are 44 per cent and those 55 and older are much less likely to agree, and are at 37 per cent.

“What we’re seeing in the numbers is that it’s younger people who are most interested in the message of the people who are occupying downtown Ottawa…so their belief in all of this is that this is less about the politics and more about genuine suffering that’s taking place among a group of the population that they can sympathize with,” Bricker said.

He added that as far as politics are concerned, there isn’t “unanimity in any political party at the moment.”

Fact Check-Trudeau’s joke about paying media is taken out of context

"The clip is a part of a longer speech from the Parliamentary Press Gallery dinner on May 4, 2019, traditionally an event where people give comical and satirical speeches. A full video of the speech can be seen (here) (at 38:58).

Verdict
Missing context. Justin Trudeau’s reference to paying the media $600 million was meant as a joke."

My bad. It was $595 million and not $600...

From the same article posted above:

In 2018, The Globe and Mail reported the country’s media would be getting a $595 million package as part of Ottawa’s fiscal update (here). The Canadian government also financially supports the Canada Media Fund (cmf-fmc.ca/about-us/), (here), a public-private organization supporting media content creation in the country.

Fed-Up Ottawa Residents Use Pornographic Metal Song About Gay Cowboys To Disrupt Freedom Convoy

Counter protesters are turning to "Ram Ranch" by Grant MacDonald

I thought that was hilarious in counter-protest, justified too, citizens aggravated from all that honking :shifty:

The one blatant issue that I have exception with is: Trudeau never even tried to talk with the truckers.

A little side note:

Posts spread fake letter from Canada's Trudeau to Ottawa protesters

Social media posts claim Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote a letter saying he is willing to meet members of the "Freedom Convoy" and its supporters protesting Covid-19 vaccine mandates, providing an image as evidence. This is false; the premier's office says the letter did not come from his team, and he has made no public moves to meet with the demonstrators.

"In a Letter, Trudeau will meet with Truckers in the Freedom Convoy, with engagement time limits based on "Jab Status"!," claims a February 9, 2022 tweet sharing a photo of a letter that shows a logo of the prime minister's office and signatures of both Trudeau and his chief of staff.

In the text of the letter being circulated, the leader of Canada's government proposed to meet with protesters, with time limits based on the Covid-19 vaccination status of the petitioner.

Federal government invokes Emergencies Act for first time ever in response to protests, blockades

Act grants cabinet ability to take 'special temporary measures that may not be appropriate in normal times'

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he's invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada's history to give the federal government temporary powers to handle ongoing blockades and protests against pandemic restrictions.

"It is now clear that there are serious challenges to law enforcement's ability to effectively enforce the law," Trudeau told a news conference Monday afternoon.

"It is no longer a lawful protest at a disagreement over government policy. It is now an illegal occupation. It's time for people to go home."

Trudeau said the measures will be geographically targeted and "reasonable and proportionate to the threats they are meant to address."

The unprecedented deployment of the Emergencies Act gives police more tools to restore order in places where public assemblies constitute illegal and dangerous activities, such as blockades and occupations, he said. Trudeau said the act also will enable the RCMP to enforce municipal bylaws and provincial offences where required.

"This is about keeping Canadians safe, protecting people's jobs and restoring confidence in our institutions," he said. .....

Legal threshold questioned

Jack Lindsay, an associate professor in the applied disaster and emergency studies department at Brandon University in Manitoba, said one of the first steps in invoking the Emergencies Act is the government showing that a state of emergency exists.

"They're gonna have to basically prove that first hurdle, that it is a national emergency," he said.

"He's basically going to be arguing that these truckers are basically creating a threat to the security of Canada."

Leah West, an assistant professor in international studies at Carleton University who has published a book on national security law, questions whether that threshold has been met.
