It seems that after transfer the expiring date would exceed 10 yrs, I think it is not allowed to.

I believe you can transfer it. However, there will not be any years added, as it can not exceed 10.

Transfer, possible. Add more years, no.

A good reason to not register for a full 10 years ahead. If you get mad at your registrar, you won't gain any extension by transferring.

But Network Solutions offers a 99-year registration (that's from memory -- if it isn't them, it's some other registrar I hate).

How does that work if you can't have a reg period of more than 10 years?

The logical guess is that they pay 10 years up front and then add another year every year.

A 99 year registration is just an excuse to make more money for Network Solutions.

Network Solutions do offer 99 year reg but they do the renewals every year they themselves do not do a 99 year reg with the registry as it is impossible.

just setup automatic renewal if you want to.

Sometimes registering your best domains well into the future can help sell them - somebody who wants it but is in no hurry isn't going to sit around hoping it drops next renewal.
