Traffic Testing Questions

I've read that registered domains can be held for several days to a week after initial registration as a means to test traffic and then cancelled if results are below expectations. I have a couple questions about this:

1) Is this true?
2) How is the traffic monitored during this test period.

Thanks, from today's newbie.

Kumusta ka, William?

I've pasted a quote from the article below the title & URL.

News ArticleTitle: "Typed too fast? Google profits from your typo"
By Leslie Walker and Brian Krebs
The Washington Post

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002962245_google30.html

QUOTE:
"It's such an easy process," said Ron Jackson, publisher of DNJournal.com, an online publication that covers the industry. "In two minutes, I can set up a thousand domain names."
The practice has sparked a speculative scramble to register unused names and test their ad potential. Because purchasers can change their minds within five days and avoid paying the $6 registration fee for the name, many investors enter the names in Google's ad program for a quick test and quickly drop those that don't yield enough clicks to cover the domain registration fee. ENDQUOTE

Any thoughts on this?

All over our board, and it is true.
Look in the legal issues section for domainspy , or the main DND folder many many times.
5 days, and not all registrars will allow "regular" users to do so.
Do a lot of reading before you decide to do anything.
