It is a state by state law, my state of Texas just signed a executive order and made it law that you do have to wear a mask when out in public, if you are caught with a mask you get a $250 fine.

There is no ignorance. California is different.

Expect worst for the states reopen too quickly, wit lax mask law, late to party; Cali late to law?

Mandates from governors are not the same thing as laws.

    Not a California thing....

A mandate is not a law in any state.

    Different term, different meaning.

    People are still exempt:

"Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering" (technically everyone that knows masks are hazardous to their health is exempt - i.e. reducing oxygen to unsafe levels for instance)

    https://open.texas.gov/uploads/file...overings-during-COVID-19-IMAGE-07-02-2020.pdf

Do you really think Texans are drinking the kool-aid on this matter @.X. ?

Seems like a recipe to insight the most armed state in the country to revolt if draconian measures continue!?

And even with the inaccurate testing and incentives to attach CV19 labels in hospitals.....

    Texas has <2600 CV19 deaths!

As most of you in the USA and likely elsewhere know, almost all elective medical procedures, surgeries and even routine doctor appointments were all postponed / cancelled for a few months.

And now elective doctor appointments, procedures and surgeries are for the most part back and available per pre-Covid, with, certain stipulations.

Enter the medical clinic and you are greeted by masked health care workers who will verify your appointment, question you re Covid symptoms, question you re travel, take your temperature and, make certain you, the patient, is wearing a mask.

" If you cannot afford a face mask, one will be given to you at no charge" seems to be the medical mantra of the day.

Then you go to the doctor's medical reception desk, stand 6* feet from the now mask wearing receptionists you have known for years and be re-questioned re symptoms, possible Covid contacts etc.

A nurse wearing a mask quickly calls you into the inner sanctum of your doctor's office ( no lingering in reception), washes her hands with soap and hot water until her skin turns red from the heat, then goes over your vitals etc.

Then in comes Doc, his always friendly face now entombed in a mask, he too washes his hands with soap and water so hot it looks like it is being piped in from Hot Springs.

After the verbal and briefest as necessary ( though complete! ) exam you have a conversation about, Covid19.

The docs with whom we have discussed this new earth scourge are adamant about us continuing to wear masks ( and social distance, avoid crowds, wash hands frequently etc) and we are 100% in agreement with our docs about our wearing of masks, etc.

I do not believe, by any rational reason, docs and their staffs are going through such guarded masking measures without there being anything less than a real world threat to their own safety and the safety of others!

I do not believe, by any rational reason, so many docs gave up tens to hundreds of thousands of dollar in missed appointments, surgeries etc for anything less than a real world threat to their own safety and the safety of others!

To those who choose not to wear a mask in public, try and locate a medical facility that will agree with your decision not to wear a mask at your next doctor appointment.

You're right of course. What matters is the end result. Potatoes potatos.

I'm by no means pro wearing masks at all cost but I can see in what situations and how it could help.

That being said, if I were American I probably wouldn't believe an aweful lot of what those in power are stating to be true.

Anyway, good luck to you all, by the looks of it it's not getting any better in large parts of the US but have a good 4th and spend it responsibly!

Thank you for the update....sounds like hell, maybe worse.

There is quite a divide about masks (in case you haven't noticed :xf.rolleyes:) among healthcare workers.

For business to continue, many establishments must go along with the wag-the-dog saga verbatim, else risk losing everything.

...And the only doctor I see? Of course he never wears a mask.

Thanks for the thread...haven't read it yet...sure it will be a hoot!

Yes, I wear a mask...been wearing one for a while. You see, I consider myself part of a society and to wear a mask shows I care for others (since I am not wearing an NBC rated mask, it serves the purpose of protecting others more so than myself).

May everyone have a happy and safe 4th!

I read a few posts only but i'm sure this turned into another US political thread.

In any case, its a tough a call, its actually physical distancing is what would keep you & others safe inshallah, but wearing a mask also helps limit the spread.

For those who need to have it on 8-12 hours a day, I really feel for them, its really tough. I can't ask them to have it on that long, but it does help.

I am interested to know what solutions are offered to contain the virus by those who are against wearing masks.

Ridiculing the other side without presenting an alternative solution to prevent the exponential devastation that is facing the World both in terms of the Global economy and the lives that are being lost or affected does not pass the intelligent test anymore and falls more under the same old political animosities that have been dividing the people in the past.

So although it's good to know what each side thinks of wearing masks, but the bigger question should be What Can We do to contain the virus and Can We All find some common grounds that are based on logic and compassion in fighting the virus.

So everyone lets go beyond the usual political attacks and ridiculing others and offer a genuine solution to the problem that the World is facing now.

In my opinion no single action by itself can save us from this pandemic, but a combination of taking several logical and concerted steps both by people and the Governments around the World can give Us the upper hand over the virus (by us I mean the humanity at large regardless of anyone's politics).

So let's figure out what those logical and concerted efforts are before we get to the point of no return since as we speak the virus is finding a stronger hold over the population and will use that reservoir of unsuspecting people who are not taking this situation seriously to expand its reach even further.

Most medical professionals will tell you that simple things such as washing our hands thoroughly and frequently, not touching our faces, coughing into a napkin or our sleeves and not into the air, wearing a mask and eye or face shield, sanitizing the surfaces and objects that we might come in contact with, and keeping good hygiene overall can be surprisingly effective in being able to contain the virus. In highly contaminated areas it might also be helpful to shelter in place and do more testing and tracking to contain those who are already infected.

We also need to keep in mind that this is a learning experience even for the experts so as the situation on the ground changes and we gain more insight into how this virus operates we might need to change our strategies accordingly.

    IMO

I disagree. I know many bright, rooted, healthy, levelheaded, hyperintelligent, generous people. I'm on the west coast which may as well be a different country from the east coast.

Are you on the east coast?

Face masks work very well in thinning out dispersions when very close to the source. What gets through is the very small droplets and not in sufficient density to pose a serious hazard. In other words, masks protect people near you from infection by you. They do not protect you, yourself, directly. Other people wearing masks are what protects you.

So wearing a mask is an act of civic responsibility and shows care for your fellow human beings. I have no respect whatever for the selfish bastards who refuse to respect that. Including those of us Brits who are just as selfish and entitled as Americans. There are plenty of them to despise.

Best to protect from Covid are the N95 masks.

This is nonsense. We have some dumb person in charge of the country make it political. His son Don Jr. couldn't make the speech last night because his girlfriend contracted the virus. He literally goes against the advice of people he used to stand on stage with, experts in the field. Basic stuff, wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands etc. You had like 90% of the people last night close together, not wearing masks, same thing at his Tulsa Farewell Tour, where you had many in his group come down with it, Secret Service had to quarantine etc.

If you don't want to wear a mask and want to help, then lock yourself in your house.

This shouldn't be political, it should be common sense. But as you can tell, a lot of people lack it. These are some of the same people that would go flying thru their car windshield because they don't want to wear a seatbelt, because they believe in freedom man. Or some conspiracy type worried about government control, personal freedoms etc.

A lot of places are now making it mandatory to wear a mask when out and about in public. This should have been the message for awhile now from the top. Every time Trump does an interview, tweets, gets some type of media coverage, he could be sending that message out like a real leader would do. He does the opposite.

The simple thing of wearing a mask is going to help. Period. We're closing up again because numbers are going back up, spiking because dumb people can grasp this simple thing. And this will in turn just make the economy worse, more people getting sick, some dying.

There you go again JB starting your comment with a negative phrase.

The fact that this pandemic has been made into a political issue by both the Right and the Left is very unfortunate and is going to cost us all dearly.

But here is our chance to go beyond politics at least here on this forum and try to come up with a consensus over some common grounds that we all can agree on as far as how best to bring this virus under control.

The protests, the beach parties, people going to crowded bars have all contributed to the rise in new infections almost in every State and I believe that all sides are guilty in one way or another in making the situation worse. So let's stop the one sided attacks and try to educate the people at least here on this forum in how to keep themselves safe.

    PS: Happy 4th of July

This is the interesting thing about people that slam trump. They skim over the fact that the protesters and paid for agitators, by the left mind you, are out being reckless. Not wearing masks, gathering in mass amounts, destroying property.

When it comes to masks you don’t get to slam one side or the other. There are huge downfalls by both parties on this one.

What you consider negative is simply the truth.

Then you go on about finding common ground on how to bring this virus under control. We already know what we need to do, I went over it again in my last post. We just have people that refuse to do it, including yourself. You said:

"those who are against wearing masks"

That's one of the best things you can do, you refuse to do it.

Then with, let's stop attacking sides, which usually comes from people on the wrong side.

When the U.S. has 4% of the population but 25% of the cases and 25% of the deaths, that's failure. We probably could not have stopped the virus from coming in but you can control how you respond to it.

This whole post is nonsense as well.

First off, protesting is a Constitutional right, you can't do much about that. But you have control over rallies. Trump could simply say, no mask, no entry. He can practice social distancing, some obvious stuff, he doesn't.

Also, and this is live in front of the world. Most protesters are wearing masks, most Trump supporters, those showing up at this events, are not.

And I can slam one side since it's mostly one side that has an issue with it. Not everybody, but most. Again, look at the events. It's like 90% not wearing masks. These anti-mask protests, people filming themselves going into stores not wearing a mask, when the store requires it. Those are mostly Trumpers/those on the right.

Trump/Trumpers/Those on the right are biggest anti-mask group in the country. So yes, I can lay this right at their feet.

It's very simple, when you go out and about, in the public where you're going to be around other people:

    a. not wearing masks
    b. wearing masks

Which one is going to lead to more cases, more deaths, which leads to more shutting down?
