To Mask or not To Mask... is there even a question?

Do you wear a mask in public?

Hello Mods and Mems,

Well here we have it. Mandatory mask wearing in public.
Now most of you that know me understand that I am not the kind of guy that welcomes new laws...
infringement on personal freedom... that kind of stuff.
However, their are some laws that have been passed in my lifetime I believe are just plain common sense.

Car seats for kids.
Seat belts.
No riding in the back of pickup trucks.
No smoking in public places.
Stuff like this saves lives.

Wearing a mask in public is not so much for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you.
This is not my opinion. According to the medical professionals, this is a fact.

Lets hear from you.
Without turning this into a political pissing match, those of you who believe against wearing masks in public, please justify your position.

Please keep it civil... no personal attacks.

Thank you.

Peace,
Kenny

wearing masks

Not true.

They added masks to the charade at the end.

All of you with very little medical knowledge/training have proven your stance and clearly won't budge from your viewpoints. Your belief structures are too invested in your confirmation bias to look at any material outside of what you already believe.

Your qi is overly invested in defending what you see from sources outside of yourself.

And I will always defend your freedom of speech and honor you as a human beings.

Be well.

Professor Shibuya does not discount the possibility of regional differences in immunity or genetic susceptibility to Covid. But he is suspicious of the idea of a "Factor X" that explains the mortality differences.

He thinks countries that have done well in the fight against Covid, have done so for the same reason - they succeeded in dramatically reducing transmission.

Japanese people began wearing face masks more than 100 years ago during the 1919 flu pandemic and they've never really stopped. If you get a cough or a cold here it is expected that you will don a mask to protect those around you.

"I think it (a mask) acts as a physical barrier. But it also serves as a reminder to everybody to be mindful. That we still have to be careful around each other," says Keiji Fukuda, an influenza specialist and director of the School of Public Health at Hong Kong University.

Japan's track and trace system also goes back to the 1950s when it battled a wave of tuberculosis. The government set up a nationwide network of public health centres to identify new infections and report them to the health ministry.

If community transmission is suspected, a specialist team is dispatched to track the infections, relying on meticulous human contact tracing and isolation.

I never blamed anyone for their opposing views, I blamed them for their nasty responses and attitudes while they gave the opposing view.

Remember that it was once illegal to hide a Jew when they were killing Jews.
Remember it was once illegal to hide a slave when slavery was "legal" and (at the time) subjectively moral.
Remember too that it was illegal during segregation era to support black folks and their causes.

Now it's illegal to not** wear masks and you're considered hateful just because of that opposed view. This isn't a quarantine.. .quarantine is for sick people, this is what's called house arrest. They've been building interstate loops around cities for years to "quarantine" in case of an emergency, for the health and safety of all....

The nearest small sized city to me has issued mask mandates what I like to call "too little too late mandate" as the virus had supposedly plagued the area the whole time, yet here we are months later and some businesses never stopped running... I've seen pictures of people online dining in places where they all like to brag what they had for lunch... yet now, months later, all the sudden it's okay still for restaurants to do dine-in without masks worn, but if you're going to the bathroom, or coming in or leaving, then you need a mask and that's suppose to work somehow after 5/6 months of not doing it.

I just went to the city twice the other day, and come in contact with an elderly lady to help her (because no one else would help her it seemed) and I'm fine, she's fine... I know no one personally who has it and only heard of one other person who tested positive who's fine now 2 months past (a baby).

In this area, cops, emt, judges, prosecutors and military is what brought it to the area. It seems too political to be a plague when it's new, no one knows much about it, except it comes in waves, and oh yeah they pretend they know everything else about it too..... then the cameras shut off and they go back to "normal" without masks and without pretending everything's suppose to be a fear.

Kids can't go to school without fear of getting sick, while they normalize letting out violent criminals who go and kill people at random.... at random is what the news tells you but it's all planned, those people shouldn't be out of jail and I know someone who's sick in jail and they won't let him get a decent meal, a phone call, treatment (only a single tylonel) so if this is real they aren't treating it like it, and only people involved in politics seem to get the virus.

Who is this hero woman?
Someone whom thinks she'll get respect by using profanity and wearing mirrored welding helmet googles? Selling real estate? What a hero! Oh boy.
Not only have we lost it, we've also lost the meaning of "hero".

What r u trying to accomplish there, Frank? Are these the people that command your respect? Please, elaborate..

Visualizing Speech-Generated Oral Fluid Droplets with Laser Light Scattering

Although is very basic to understand, here is a very visual video showing the amount of Aerosols and droplets generated during speech.

This is a question of public health that not only concerns to one person, but to everybody around that person. And as it concerns and depends the health of everybody around you, please, use the f*king mask and cover your mouth when you are in public with others, to not infect everybody around you.

Widespread Face Mask Use Could Control Second Wave

June 10, 2020 - The widespread wearing of face masks -- even homemade ones -- could go a long way toward reducing coronavirus transmission rates and might help control a second wave of the virus, according to a British study released Wednesday.

Scientists from Cambridge and Greenwich universities said stay-at-home orders aren’t enough to stop the spread of the coronavirus. But when lock-down periods are combined with 100% face mask use, “there is vastly less disease spread, secondary and tertiary waves are flattened and the epidemic is brought under control,” said the study published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A.

you might not like wearing a ventilator

17 years ago I was on a ventilator and in a coma for five days.

I know what it is like from experience.

Since I woke up I healed myself from chronic issues and I have never been to the ER ever again.

Any microbiologist or scientist in that field can tell you that a virus can not live or reproduce on its own, viruses need a reservoir of other living beings in order to survive, whether that reservoir consists of animals or human beings, any action on our side that can reduce the size of that reservoir or that can eliminate it completely needs to be given top priority globally.

1- The average masks can't block the virus

2- Masks are effective in preventing the transmission of Covid 19

People are fighting over which one of the above statements is true, each side makes very convincing arguments to support their stance, but the logical conclusion that I arrive at tells me that both statements are true at the same time.

Well let me explain:

The average masks cannot block particles that are below a certain micron in size whether it's paint particles that have been atomized or whether it's Coronavirus which is microscopic in size these all can pass through the kind of masks that are available to the general public, even the N-95 masks which claim to be able to block 95% of these microscopic particles will still allow 5% of them to pass through (hence the name N-95) the only way to be 100% protected is to buy one of those masks that are used in biological labs.

But the average masks even the homemade cloth ones can and do block the Larger Droplets that come out of our mouths which might contain the virus. These droplets can easily get airborne when people are sneezing or even talking and can be inhaled by others if people are not wearing masks especially when people are in very close proximity of each other.

Keep in mind that if a mask is dense enough to block all the virus particles it might interfere with breathing, so it's best not to go to the extreme especially if a mask has to be worn all day, as long as everyone wears a mask that can block the Larger Droplets that are released in the air from our mouths while talking or sneezing then we all can help protect each other and take the load off of the many medical professionals and first responders who have to take care of us once we get sick.

So everyone should do their part in containing the virus by wearing a mask, washing hands, and obeying the physical distancing rules.

IMO
face shields work, wore those when i worked in college lab.

Numerous Texas Sheriffs Vow To Not Enforce 'Draconian' Mask Rule

“The order is not a law, there is no requirement that any police officer enforce it, and it’s unenforceable,”

Houston Police Officers’ Union President Joe Gamaldi posted about the mask mandate on Twitter, describing it as “draconian.”

TEXANS CAN COLLECTIVELY TAKE SOME DEEP BREATHS OF FRESH AIR.
