Well, we have a client looking to part ways with a (100) domain portfolio. Based on our assessment of the assets, it’s a very solid portfolio considering the future use-case prospects for certain gtlds. The portfolio isn’t anchored by short .coms; but the value in SLDs like “ip.credit”, “am.today”, “vibrant.skin”, “evrentals.nyc” and the like is rather obvious.

As for why the client is parting with the portfolio, it comes down to a unique blend of “wanting to give value” and “an attempt to help evolve domain-market fundamentals”. The client strongly believes in the power of a name. This is why they initially entered into domain acquisition. However, recent market conditions prompted them to have an epiphany.

As impractical as it MAY read, the client doesn’t have a “sales philosophy”; but a “service philosophy”. They believe in being of service. They view domains as more than strings of letters and numbers that can be sold for considerable sums to the right buyer. They view them as pillars for identity in an ever-so-crowded, and often very noisy, digital realm.

With their philosophy and market conditions in mind, the client proposed a 70/30 offering concept. The idea is that a non-commercial buyer could acquire the entire portfolio for a floor-price of $70 USD per domain; but would be required to pay it forward by "gifting" at least 30% of the domains to others. The goal is to provide an opportunity. The sale itself is a given.

In short, we have a client who's taking a rather unconventional route to offering a portfolio. They look to be of service in the presence of a sale. They've decided to offer their portfolio in tandem with a 70/30 concept. Floor-price for all (100) SLDs would be $70 per domain. The caveat is the buyer would commit to "gifting" 30% of the portfolio to others. (Paying it forward.) Hopefully we were able to clarify the story and offering a bit more. (Smiles)
