do you think there would be an interest in owning a piece of a great name?

lets say for example someone has a bunch of 3 letter .coms....he releases one of them to the crowd and receives equity in that name...lets say the name is valued at 15k and the owner allows 50% of it or 7.5k to be purchased by others...then when the name is sold he divides the total sales btw all with a % of the name....
    great idea? will never fly?

Are they still active? Looks like they dropped off in 08/09...

@toughdomains If you could create something like FUSU.com, I'd surely be interested.

I think the main concerns would be with the structural and legal aspects of the idea. If you can address all potential risks and eventualities, and build a proven track record of paying out your investors, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

If I believed that I would never get out of bed....always try to dream bigger than the next guy...its impossible that everything has already been invented...or executed the best way....

.I dont think when radio came out they would have thought of TV and when TV was invented I dont think they were thinking of internet.
and when we were all on dial up we certainly were not thinking one day ill buy a car with bitcoin from my phone. In 2009 the ipad didnt exist...
no offense to that site listed but thats not the vision I had when I made this post...that service is a good proof of concept but much more can be done there....
...and there will be much more innovation within our lifetime.

Maybe they dropped out due to lack of interest. I can see how crowd funding could be used for a charity or political site, but I can't see how it would work for a commercial site.

I personally wouldn't trust any investment group type deal... especially on that scale considering the schemes going on here for much lower investments. I think you are better off dealing with people you know and trust, contracts in place within your jurisdiction, etc.

Indeed, the site doesn't seem much alive.
Sad, apparently it was a well thought-out and and structured effort.

My guess is that the market aimed for was just too small, not enough interest.
    Doesn't surprise me.

In domaining pretty much everything has been invented and tried out already. If it no longer exists, there is a reason.

I had a similar idea a couple years ago. I was wondering if someone could build trust little by little, by paying out small dividends and leverage word of mouth. I was visualizing people logging in daily and trading, even cashing out if a specific investment went surprisingly well. And domains would be grouped in categories, so you could diversify as much or as little as you want, and each user would have their portfolio and receive a daily summary.

You know, I think it might be better to invest in domains as a company, and then allow for individuals to invest in that company as a whole. Like, if you could get a piece of every sale that Rick Shwartz, Andrew Rosener, or Frank Schilling made... :greedy:

Micro-managing each domain name seems like it could prove to be too much of a hassle.

I once posted something similar here asking if people thought it was a good idea, but mine focused more on crowdfunding to buy premium dropping names at auction. Based on the responses I got, most domainers would not be interested.

There are some private arrangements between domainers. Some domainers pool funds to co-own domain names. There was even a private buyers group at NP back in the day (don't know if it's still active).

I was thinking of providing liquidty for names you already own....again you own 3 lll.com and want to crwodfund one to have some funds to do whatever with...allows you to share the risk of high investment names.
