The Official .ws thread

.WS can stand for WEBSITE.

It has pros and cons as a domain. This thread is for people who wish to suggest ideas to build up and help promote the .ws domain as well as to give and receive help and advice on .ws domains in general. Some useful info contributed through this thread below. Views and comments anyone...

http://website.ws/faq/index.dhtml

The registry is now allowing .WS domain names to be transferred from registrar to registrar. It seems that most registrars just haven't updated their websites to allow this yet.

This is good news for the .ws market as this was a major factor in holding .ws back. Time for .ws to take off? Can we publicize this to help boost the market?

So why buy .ws?
1. Excellent keywords can still be regged.
2. You can buy premium keywords for $20-$50.
3. Excellent development potential, luckily goog doesn’t really care about which extension the site is on but how much content s there and how often it is updated.
4. Godaddy markets .ws - little but its a big brand
5. The ‘website’ christening seems to have more and more acceptance.
6. Its easy to get traffic and thus revenue for better keywords in .ws than a ‘bad’ keyword in .com

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Can anyone explain to me why .ws domain names do not have any value. I have been told they are very similar to .coms. do search engines not pick them up? can they not be developed as easy? thanks

Because trying to brand dot "Western Samoa" as dot "Web Site" never fooled anyone. :bah:

Check out this site pumping the extention, it's a .org :hehe: WS Domains - The alternative to "com"

had .ws started the whole internet thing they would be , plus it's a country code

Western Samoa no longer exists. I say apply to change .ws to a gtld, or better yet change to .web in addition to gtld and remove ridiculous prices for short names.

Western Samoa Does STILL exist.
The fact the COUNTRY changed it's name to Independent State of SAMOA in 1997 , does not mean it no longer is entitled to the ccTLD .WS.

Just a play on words.
I think most people with common sense know what I meant.

I don't recall anyone saying that they are not entitled to the extention.

Why are .ws domains not as valuable as .com domains?

Because they are not as heavily branded as .com

Whats the point in starting the thread again in a different section?

Are you trying to pump the extension or trying to suppress prices for a purchase? Escapes me.

They're worth what they are, why not the same as .com... no other extension is coz .com has billions of development and marketing $$$ behind it, no other extension does and probably never will.

What do you think, will .ws domains price get up in the future or they will be worthless after several years too? I have few one popular word .ws domains and I do not know what to do: keep them or sell for a very low price?

I don't think they are more valuable today than say, ten years ago. IMO the 'natural' (local) market is limited and there are better vanity TLDs available.

The question was already asked in this thread earlier, if I remember well, but there was no other solution found. If you are interested in WS, I would also suggest to look at WS names in GoDaddy's expiring lists.

what would it take for you to reg .ws

curious what kind of exact search criteria you might require for a .ws purchase. Found a pretty desirable search term (600,000+) exact searches for an item often sold online... worth the $14.99?

Does anyone buy the .ws for any reason? Do you feel like its marketable to end users?
thanks!

nevermind, finding a ton of them. Thought I'd hit on something... apparently not!

personally a lot of vodka as I own over 99% .com with a few .mobi, a few .us and 1 .name and 1 .org

"... apparently not!"

(oops... corrected the source of the quote!)

Which begs the question, if there was a .crap extension, how long would it take before "ws" was registered?

There is value in EVERY Domain extension...
except this one.

Sorry Bro, go buy a longtail .com with your $15.00 or cough up $5 more bucks and grab a good one word .TV, or go grab 5 .us's, or 15 .info's, or buy yourself a pizza w/your $15.00 but do yourself a favor, seriously stay away from this garbage.
