As economist Martin Feldstein explains, the border adjustment would raise hundreds of billions in tax revenue — not from U.S. consumers or corporations, but from our foreign trading partners.

Under the border adjustment, the United States would refund the tax on exports and charge it on imports — so the net revenue would be negative if we had a trade surplus, and positive if we had a trade deficit. Because the United States has a trade deficit, Feldstein calculates the border adjustment would bring in about $120 billion a year, or $1 trillion over a decade.

** don't know where you pulled that quote but it wasn't from the article l linked to.

You should have read more:

"As economists quickly pointed out, however, tariffs aren’t paid by the exporter. With some minor qualifications, basically they’re paid for by the buyers — that is, a tariff on Mexican goods would be a tax on U.S. consumers. America, not Mexico, would therefore end up paying for the wall."

Trump himself doesn't like the idea you seem to love:

"Trump criticized the border adjustment this weekend, telling the Wall Street Journal “Anytime I hear border adjustment, I don’t love it.”

Read the comments to articles as well, many comments taking the article apart, one with a link to an article I quoted from. Again, it's why Trump doesn't like the idea.

Everyone is a critic. House has votes to pass the CR, Senator Feinstein say's people will die but doesn't know if she'll vote for it.

I thought for sure the D's would pin a shutdown on the R's but looks like they will own it if happens.

Why is it that the same Democrats who have been all in on leaking classified intel to the Press reportedly have NO desire in even viewing the memo. It’s almost like they’re hiding something. This is the end of the Democratic Party. #ReleaseTheMemo

Who cares? Most times the hard road is the road less traveled. In my opinion, it just means, the presidents policies are working? America First! Most Americans are very tired of spending our tax money and borrowing, just to spread it around the globe. We have to tighten our belt here at home and that's not popular abroad. Our infrastructure is crumbling and "ILLEGAL" Immigration and all it's drawbacks is totally out of control! He was elected to fix the hard problems that face America and make hard decisions that, again, won't be popular abroad, (READ: Cut the money off!) and that most other politicians refuse to address and just kick the can down the road. When will people realize, that President Trump, is a totally unorthodox politician. One whom, will not sit back and let people take shots at. One whom, says what he thinks and doesn't care if it's not "Politically Correct"! It's the platform he ran on, won on, and will continue to follow! The level of disrespect shown to this President is beyond what I could have ever imagined in our country, and frankly it's quite disturbing!

Right who cares. But even the most powerful nation needs allies. Burning bridges is easy, mending and nurturing relationships is the hard part.
Don't forget who's bailing you out. Foreign nations, China in particular. It will want something in return for the leverage. Without the rest of the world you are nothing. Yes, you are big and we are small. But you are broke (and morally bankrupt too).

But if you don't care about the rest of the world, at least you should care about your own country. If there is one country that hates America, it is America... A divisive leader ain't going to fix a divided nation.

Respect has to be earned, it's not something you can buy.
Respect is a two-street. Given his extremist embrace of xenophobia and discrimination are you surprised the standing of America is at an all-time low. Making up excuses makes you a party to the crime.
We have a man here who doesn't respect the institutions, the press (the one that is not aligned), and the other half of America that didn't vote for him. In fact he doesn't seem to like his own country very much.
We are not blaming 45 for being atypical, not even for lacking the qualities position demands. The job is tough.
We are blaming him for his total disregard for common decency, for his lack of intellect, for being a pathological liar, for being so out of touch with reality. But it looks like the US wants to follow in the footsteps of Venezuela. Enjoy the ride.

We have plenty of those!

The amount of debt is troubling, which is why we voted a CEO into the White House.
But you are broke (and morally bankrupt too).
How so?
But if you don't care about the rest of the world, at least you should care about your own country.
What makes you think the US doesn't care about the rest of the world. Nothing could be further from the truth.
If there is one country that hates America, it is America
Maybe in liberal California that's true, with their talks of succession, sanctuary cities and other non sense, but in most of America, real Americans love their country and it's ideals, dearly.

Exactly! Which is why he's fighting back against the uber-liberal, super-slanted mainstream media! The amount of negative press he receives daily is mind boggling!
Given his extremist embrace of xenophobia and discrimination are you surprised the standing of America is at an all-time low. Making up excuses makes you a party to the crime.
This is where liberals always take the conversation. Because we disagree with you, and support our President, it makes us, "a party to some sort of crime"! or Complicit as they like to say!
We have a man here who doesn't respect the institutions, the press (the one that is not aligned), and the other half of America that didn't vote for him. In fact he doesn't seem to like his own country very much.
Sure, he hates America, that's why a billionaire would take this job! The hardest in the world, outside of domainer perhaps!
We are not blaming 45 for being atypical, not even for lacking the qualities position demands.
The qualities by whose standards?
But it looks like the US wants to follow in the footsteps of Venezuela.
That will never happen!
We have one of the greatest countries in the world, because we have freedoms, but we also have rules of society, which are being eroded by lawlessness and a society that thinks the "law doesn't apply to me" and that needed to be changed!

But you are aware he badly went bankrupt ?
Quite aware, as I live in New Jersey. You do realize he has owned hundreds of businesses and like any business owner knows, unfortunately bankruptcy protection is sometimes afforded to businesses within the law. Filing a business bankruptcy hardly makes him a bad business man, as anyone with common sense would know! He's doing just fine financially, I believe!

Of course. But someone who has filed for bankruptcy and wants to run the country like one of his enterprises makes me worry a bit. In fact, it is a fallacy, a country cannot be run just like a business. The rules and constraints are quite different.

Speaking of freedoms... Congress just reauthorized FISA Section 702 (warrantless, mass surveillance program also affecting Americans). Where does that idea of the US as a beacon of freedom for the world come from ?

Don't worry, it's for the best, in my opinion! More money needed to stay here and address our problems, not Irans, for example! I think I saw Apple is planning on spending $350 billion here and creating 20,000 jobs!

From the idea that we want the freedom "To Stay Alive"! It's a very complicated issue balancing a fine line between privacy concerns and Americans right to be safe from terrorism. Personally I feel that if you're not breaking the law, who gives a crap, if you want to listen to my phone calls or read my emails, as long as you're only using that information to prevent terrorism! But I agree it's a slippery slope, but as someone who was directly affected by 9/11 I probably lean a little bit more to the, "anything to prevent terrorism" argument then the nobody has a right to listen to my phone calls or read my emails regardless of whether I'm on social media talking up jihad!

Just got around to reading this drivel btw. Apparently the poll asked about 7 people (15 or older, lol) in 135 countries their opinion. Hardly scientific, but since it was on the internet, it must be accurate!
"Results are based on face-to-face and telephone interviews with approximately 1,000 adults, aged 15 and older, in each country or area. Between March and November 2017, residents in 134 countries or areas"
This is the type of journalism and it's spread that so many in America abhor! It's absolutely meaningless, other than to undermine our current President! Let's stop using any political polls to back up our points, they are extremely unreliable!

And now we have a tax bill that's going to add 1.5 trillion to the debt. Good going!

Since youre in NJ you may also remember his casinos failing while the industry as a whole was thriving, the violations of anti-money laundering regulations, his friends in the Italian and later the Russsian mob, and the small business owners he saved money by not paying. He carries a buttload (that's a real unit of measure btw) of debt and American banks won't lend to him because of the multiple bankruptcies. How much we don't know because unlike his predecessors in office he refuses to be transparent about his taxes. He also ran a scam university, was caught openly practicing anti black housing discrimination, and has cheated on every one of his three spouses (so much for GOP family values).

But he talks a good game and was great at telling people they were fired on a pseudo-reality TV show.

That remains to be seen!

Not true, as most of the casinos in Atlantic City were failing, except the Borgata because it was new. He sold his interest and some casinos still carried his name as they failed. He saw the writing on the wall and exited that industry before he lost too much. Good timing on his part.

The casino business and New York commercial real estate are filled with unseemly characters, there's not much you can do to avoid it. I'm not going to defend his business prowess, because it speaks for itself. The failures are few and far between and most business owners who ever owned 100 businesses will have a few failures amongst them. It's a ridiculous point when it comes up.

He's not required too!
and has cheated on every one of his three spouses (so much for GOP family values).
Says you? He is far from perfect, we know that, nobody is, really, but if you took every politician, that cheated on their spouse out of Congress or the Senate, their would be about 10 people voting on bills! I didn't realize adultery was limited to just the GOP?

It's true he doesn't have to. But when you are running for public office you have a duty of transparency much above that of an ordinary citizen. Especially when you retain stakes in a business empire while acting in official capacity (surrounded by banksters).
We can only draw our own conclusions: he doesn't want you to see those records for a reason. Maybe you'll find some details about tax avoidance schemes that are only available to the wealthy, and not to average American citizens. Perhaps it would not look good on him if people realize he probably pays little in proportion to his wealth.

And we know that his businesses have thrived upon outsourcing and foreign labor. Light years away from his protectionist stance that only the gullible can believe.
What he says and what he does are two different things.

Again, it's surprising that somebody who likes to dig the dirt on opponents is being so shy on that particular issue. Yet he wasn't so much of a pussy when it comes to his own health bulletin.
Politicians are funny, they think that you don't deserve any privacy (because you are a potential terrorist), that your phone calls and Internet logs are fair game, that you should be subject to warrantless mass surveillance programs. But they value their own privacy !
