The LLL.com sales report & discussion thread

We need this one too guys :)

This guide will also help LLLL.com holders to understand more the value of their 4 letters .com based on how expensive the similar 3 letters .com are.

From:

http://3character.com/priceguide.html

Pricing Guide for 3-Letter (Composed Of Letters Only) Domains:

Current Observed Minimum Wholesale Price (regardless of letter combo) as of February 1, 2008:

3-Letter .com - $6700 (+ $300 since January 1, 2008 report)

But I consider their guide a bit old since they are not taking in consideration the emergenging countries that appreciate other letters and as we have run a poll here several times lately, the majority of people consider the letters U
and W to be Premium letters.

Let`s have a look at some recent LLL.com sales as reported from NameBio.com :

exactly. those who say otherwise really look stupid imo

they can point stats, roll out flowcharts rofl.

on top of a few other thousand other words:

World Wide Web Ring any bells? :sold:

to have a W in any configuration is so damned handy, if only for world and web.

obviously the countless other words in the dictionary.

also any letter as the first letter is cool as for geo, it can relate to any city or country on the planet, which all start with every letter. sure some start with more chance of an a than an x for example, but you get what im trying to say

When I was looking around the 'Net last night for more info, I found that the general point of fact seems to be this:

**The five most common letters beginning words are "t," "o," "a," "w," and "s."**

In fact, I found this quote: "More than 50% of English words start with "T, A, O, S, or W."

Note the W. However, the chart I pointed at above seems to have a different result -- I'm not sure why. But my main point with the chart was really to show that proper names can have a substantial impact on the viability of acronyms -- not only giving J a huge boost in the English language, (Spanish too, I would think), but also a big reason why Q, X, and Z are potentially very good for China.

Do you see the LLLL.com frenzy boosting LLL.com prices?

its the other way round! over the last 2 years there has been a growing realisation among domainers that a limited number of characters provides the simplest method for calculating domain value and in a liquid market LLL value has moved relentlessly upwards and no doubt has has been a background factor in the explosion of LLLL values since the buyout. One just has to view the number of countdown threads in domain name discussion to see what has happened. Everybody can now play, but LLL sits like a colossus on top of the whole pile.

Anyone want to evaltuate what a CVC is worth if it has all premium letters? (Reseller pricing, not to an enduser)

Anybody with any doubts about 'W' need really only be shown that quote to settle any doubts.

'W' almost anywhere in a name, especially a LLL .com is actually among the most easily generic, when you consider how 'World,' 'Worldwide,' 'Web,' and 'Website' in a domain to fit an almost unlimited variety of possibilities.

Also, 'X' can be a lot more valuable than you'd expect. IMHO it can be used generically in a domain so easily, such as using it for Xtreme, Xpress, Xchange, (cross -- as i n 'X' wheel ), popular terms (like 'X sports,' 'X factor,' 'citizen x,' etc.) and a whole bunch of others.

They can be as, or in some cases even more, useful than an 'i' in the end of a domain (usually as 'i' used for 'inc' or 'incorporated'). You can put it anywhere in a LLLL or LLL and find it extremely useful. I for one really like and continue to invest in names with 'x' on them, and find them currently undervalued and a good opportunity.

I agree...I love an X at the beginning -- and don't forget the whole "adult" factor.

Interesting: but do we calculate the rare bargain as minimun or minimun should be the real option for the average domainer to get a few of them at such price?

It's not rare whatsoever, trust me :) I actually passed on it... It wasn't the strongest premium letters, but they were premium. Quality and enduser potential has alot to do with what premium LLL.coms go for.

Personally, I am no longer seeing LLL.com as a good bet. There is greater risk putting large sums of money into a domain that could quite easily be taken from you in a UDRP. 3L domains used to be sacred (e.g. assuming the registrant wasn't stupid, no one would be able to take the domain from him/her). However, the sad fact is that WIPO and NAF have increasingly been willing to allow 3L domains to be taken away from the registrant.

This being said, anytime you have an asking price >$1,300 for a domain that could be subject to a UDRP, you are running a real risk of losing your domain. Put simply, why pay $8k+ for a LLL.com or ~$1k for a LLL.net right now when:

(1) the revenue/traffic on them generally isn't great;
(2) any end user could spend $1,300 and some attorneys fees and possibly take the domain from you in an UDRP; and
(3) the amount of domainers able/willing to purchase the domain back from you is a relatively small amount of people.

Your better bets in the LLL marketspace are .orgs, .us, .biz, .info, and .mobis. Because these LLL domains are lower priced, even if you are faced with a person threatening a UDRP, it will be cheaper for the person to buy the domain from you than go to UDRP (and you, as the seller, will still be able to make a return selling the domain). In other words, if you spend $150 on a LLL domain and someone threatens a UDRP, you can offer to sell the domain for anything under ~$1,500 and the person threatening the action probably will just buy the domain from you.

Anyone knows at what price was sold vtb.com (it was in 2005 or 2006)?

It was bough by one of the largest russian banks VTB Bank. The bank was renamed from Vneshtorgbank (bankf for foreign trade) to VTB Bank in 2006.

Namebio does not contain this info. Would be interesting to know the sales price. Anyone knows?
