For those who are fond of downvoting, proceed to doing so if you haven’t already. Yes, you read it correctly. We welcome your downvote. Most of what you read post this point will likely be considered unpopular by the “conventional domain investors” who subscribe to “.com tribalism”. With this stated, let’s get the -23 reputation score up to, or past, a record -100.

Now, there’s a simple question we’d like to pose:

WHAT ARE THE CONS OF THE .COM?

It’s apparent that many domain investors live by the “.com only” investment strategy. Whether this is by choice OR not having the courage/ability to endorse something new is what many don’t openly discuss. We’ve noticed that some investors act like a scorned ex when they hear about any extension other than their beloved .com. Some people might call it an obsession; while others might say it’s “normal”. We simply ask “why”?

Does the .com have any greater utility than any other extension? Last we checked, it doesn’t seem to offer too much beyond what other extensions offer. Does being a die-hard endorser of .com mean one can actually “own” the domains they rent at some point? Does “renting” a .com equate to being immune to online censorship? We’re NOT asking for a friend. We’re inquiring for those who’ve “thought it” but didn’t “ask it”.

We want your thoughts on what makes the .com so supreme. The broken record that is “top sales” and “web traffic” aren’t necessary here. Please forgo the “I also have .net, .org and some .xyz’s” counter. There are over 1000+ ICANN TLDs; and we’d like to know why YOU single out one and treat a few others like slot-filling sidekicks. It feels like the .com bubble is haunting the domain investment world. Maybe it’s just a dream though.

Share your thoughts below. Don’t be shy. Show your devotion to the .com and the downvote.

(Smiles)

Yes, that means you were wrong, in case it was unclear.
Think so? We guess “inviting” people to press the downvote has nothing to do with it……

WNC, you really should invest in a better attitude and personality before investing in any domain names, regardless of the extension.

When will this end? Do we have a deadline for this thread?
Why do we need to convince him.
The only question that we should ask is why he is here and what is his agenda?
What we should do now is STOP replying to this thread so he does not waste more people time.

“what is his agenda?

Johnn, The years we have been on here, we both have seen this Dog & Pony trick to many times, I agree with you 100%. 👍🇺🇸👍

Exactly. (Minus the portion about wasting people’s time.)

Tenure will either “sharpen understanding” OR “skew interpretation” over time. With all due respect, seeing the same “Dog & Pony trick TOO many times” implies one has continuously bought tickets to the shows.

NEVER have we been malicious with our intent; or rude with our dialogue since joining the NP forum. Not once. We’ve remained respectful; while taking note of what it means to be “a seasoned domain investor with a viewpoint”.

@NamePros, we’re aware of, and respect, the fact you can censor our account; and remove posts. We’d like to request clarification on what has been stated to warrant removal of posts etc. We’ve documented all exchanges; and we believe the issue is a matter of “forum culture”.

Please tell us it’s been a “good marriage”. If not, this might explain the “tough crowd”. (Smiles) This has proven to be a place where any subject that’s not explicitly praising .com is pretty much considered a waste of time.

Au contraire oh-self-anointed-only-I-see-the-future-of-domains one.

Many a domain investor here believe in and praise many other extensions and interpretations of what is a good domain. But the one thing most here know to be fact, is that .com domains do sell, and in far greater numbers than any other extensions. And being the peeps here on NP are investors, the goal for any investor is to sell what sells to make money. And .com...SELLS! It is you that seems to have a hang up on that fact and .com, hence your adamant perseverance to push your versions of where domain investing/selling is heading, extension and length wise. And, where you feel others are not seeing your 'sudden enlightenment' in domaining, and your need to deride those in your view that continue to do what you feel is 'old school' domaining. So as you've never offered nor shown any proof that justifies your domain investing viewpoint or 'new school', as in sales, you're probably not going to get many clamoring to rise to you and your rhetoric.

You may see it as funny and who cares regarding getting negative downvotes, but why bother posting here on NP when nobody will take your advice seriously now or later on, due to those massive downvotes.

PS: perhaps you should take some time and read the book 'How to Win Friends and Influence People', because you don't seem to be doing too good of a job at such so far.

Thank you for your comment.
This debate becomes rather spicy when it comes to xyz, as there are 2 camps with differing views: the .Commers and the Xyz-ers.
What's your view on xyz?

I'm still waiting to hear how .xyz "opened the door" to web3.

Thanks in advance.
