Text a mobile in UK

I need to be able to text, for free, a mobile in uk. i shall buy a mobile just for this (pay as you go) so doesn't matter what network it runs on, but how can i do this easily?

It will take some input from a user, and text me that.

To send an sms message, I think you just have to send an email to [email protected]

Try it on www.mobmonkey.com - that's basically what i'm doing. Doesnt always work though.
