T.R.A.F.F.I.C v DomainJAM

I just got this email.

They blatantly advertise that they will be bussing invitees from the Hyatt Grand Central during and after our opening cocktail party. Man, do they have BALLS!!! Whose money do you think that they're spending to steal (yes, I said STEAL) our attendees from T.R.A.F.F.I.C.? YOURS - if you have an account with them.

They are also advertising additional sponsors to help them pay for your participation (if you QUALIFY). WATCH MY DOMAIN, PHILLIBURTON, EURODNS, NAMECHEAP and REGISTRAR ENGINE will never exhibit at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. AND - it appears that they plan on doing the same at all future T.R.A.F.F.I.C. shows. This kind of guerilla tactics first manifested itself when they undercut SKENZO by requiring people who wanted to go to their party at the Ghost Bar in Las Vegas to wear THEIR lanyards instead of the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. lanyards provided by SKENZO.

One of the things that we have tried to do (and i believe successfully) is to raise the ethical bar for domainers so that our industry will be looked upon favorably by others. These tactics by OVERSEE.NET and DOMAINSPONSOR fly directly in the face of ethics and are truly despicable. They should be denounced in the strongest terms.

So, those of you who think that this party is a good idea, and I'm sure that there will be many who do, have fun at the party, even though your participation is what the Pied Piper of Sheridan is planning on destroying T.R.A.F.F.I.C. and all that it has come to stand for in the "industry". This party is being put on for the SOLE PURPOSE of disrupting T.R.A.F.F.I.C. and the domain industry for soley SELFISH reasons. We will no longer remain silent.

Personally I don't feel bad for TRAFFIC at all. With their $1000 ticket to attend it's suprising no one has created a more reasonably priced show to compete with them. I don't see anything wrong with what Domain Sponsor is doing. I mean seriously...they are advertising a party. I think Howard is upset he can't charge them for it. How ridiculous.

Yeah I had to do a bit of research on that one, but my god, I can't wait to be rich so I can waste other people's time with my rantings... Well I do that now, but when you have money, people listen

Granted I do think it's a bit shady, but I don't meet the financial requirements to be allowed to care.

Hmm, no offense or anything.. But whose idea was it to hold an exclusive party in a night club, where probably 95% (at least) of the attendees will be male?

Might want to rethink the venue/theme for next year

How is this TRAFFIC being owned ?
This is an event held during the evening when nothing else is happening at TRAFFIC.. I'm pretty sure sedo has events going on around TRAFFIC. I've been to several TRAFFIC events where there were evenings with multiple parties going on that weren't on the schedule. In fact, every tradeshow I've ever been to has parties and events going on around it. . . . that's what happens during a successful event isn't it ?

Looking at Both sites involved ... I only see one thats directed Towards a Business crowd anyway , The other one seems to be trying to be a little too "Hip" to the younger crowds IMO. I'm not saying there isn't money or business in that sector , But it doesn't give me a serious Vibe for the Jam ....

This whole party (funded by a competitor) while at a trade show is pretty common in other industries. I don't know where the TRAFFIC guys have been if they didn't expect this to happen.

Its a free market system and that involves your entertainment.

I respect TRAFFIC.. but like any good domainer, they should have the foresight to see that this is coming. Can't tame a lion.. sponsors pulling out to build their own is very common.

TRAFFIC is costly.. I'm not surprise to see more nycjams, domainfocus, domainerbeerfest, domainandwinetasting, etc...

Jam looks hip. I'm there...

I have been involved in various industries over the years and in all industries whenever there is a trade show there is a party being put on by every supplier you see in the trade show. This is not a new concept this is a concept that has been around since time immemorial.

For anyone to think that because they are sponsoring a show that no one else has the "Right" to hold a party of their own is very naive. People are always looking for ways to on up anyone in business and that is the way of the business world.

So I would suggest that they grow up and realize that an "idea" is never exclusive.

Traffic is mad because DS cancelled their sponsor/advertising. I don't get it.

If someone who is your advertisers in your website and he/she choose to go somewhere else then you call them unethical.

This is just business.

I like this kind of friendly competition, we (domaineers) have more ways to get a better pricing attending conference. Sponsors should pay for our attendance not us, remember we bring money to them 50/50.
