Perhaps one way to meausre the popularity and the potential of .eu in comparison to other new domain extensions will be by the number of 3 letter domains registered in the first year, or even during preregistration.

There are not many extensions where all 3 letter domains get snapped up in an instant. It will be interesting to see how quickly the .eu 3 letter domains get snapped up.

I agree with you on this one Colin. Because I can't reg .eu domains I haven't even been involved in the pre-regging hype. How much is it costing to pre-reg? The cost of a pre-reg will have an influence on the number of LLL.eu's regged.

I would imagine that about 80% (wild guess ! ) of the people who are trying to reg LLL.eu's right away are going to be domainers or companies like NameAdmin Inc - verticle Axis etc :)

I have about 100 LLL.eu's on pre-reg
(but my order might of been cancelled - I really don't know at the moment???)

:td:

i think ALL of LLL.eu have already been applied via different registrars.
Via internet.bs alone about 15000 LLL.eu are applied out of 17K+something possible

does internet.bs not charge until you get the name at 11 euros?

It varies hugely. But Eurid (according to rumours) has been talking about lowering prices to Registrars to just 5 euros per domain.

gosh seems like there wunbe any avaiolable during the landrush

Not sure why they are going to reduce prices... If anything, they should keep them where they are at, see how many domains are regged, then reduce the price if more demand is needed.

Actually, if there would be demand needed then they'd increase the prices believe it or not. Obviously, .eu will be a success, and the prices should be equal to .com.

I checked the EurID whois a few weeks back, and around 7,000 of the 17,576 LLL.eu's had been applied for in the Sunrise phases already. It just shows, if almost 40% of the LLL.eu have been applied for and it's wasn't even the Landrush phase yet, I'd be surprised if ANY of the LLL's will be left on April 8/9th! Pretty amazing stuff....

All LLL .org are taken and .org is really not worth much these days , so u cant value .eu but that fact.
The big problem is that only Europians can reg it.

That's a great metric for judging the initial success of a TLD. Of course, market conditions can change dramatically, like for .us for instance.

Hello All,

My feeling is that LLL.eu's will sell out quite quickly. I would imagine that almost all the premium letter combos will be registered on opening day, and the remaining ones will be registered within a few days (if not sooner).

With the success of 3 letter domains in the other extensions, one would have to imagine that LLL.eu's will follow suit. Additionally, there are many savvy LLL investors with deep pockets who will likely register as many as they can afford.

This said, .eu does have one major issue in that it is not a gTLD and has some pretty strong restrictions regarding registration (in that only people with local presence in the EU can register). This will limit the number of people who can register these domains and also will limit the resale marketplace for .eu, but in the end this has the makings of an extremely powerful ccTLD.

For 3character.com, I hope to cover the 3-letter (and NNN and 3 Character) trends for .eu in addition to the other big extensions. It should be fun to watch and I imagine there will be some great money to be made in LLL.eu territory.

Great Thread!

.org is worth little? maybe the .orgs you own. .org is doing very well look at reg stats and sales on DN Journal .org not having a problem.

With all of the people looking to buy the "best" domains, there's no way any LLL domains will still be available after the first day of buying. Most likely, there will be a major flipping of many of those domains for a few weeks, and then things will settle down a bit...kind of like a feeding frenzy.

I think Europeans are more than happy to have a domain of their own at this stage... even though .COM is supposed to be global, a lot of people look at it as American from this side of the pond.

I have no doubt whatsoever that EU will succeed and be massive, it is a complete and whole new identity that European companies and identify themselves as, and I'm sure, with time, most will value their .EU presense possibly even more than a .COM

It's started already...!
