As Argos alluded to in a different thread, this one was dropped by a Mr Pierce....and is now available for $1,000,000....

Why would this guy let a name like that drop???

Anyway, out of the 4 names now with an official reg of 1 million, this is the least ludicrous of them all.....!!

Let me know if anyone wants to form a consortium!!!!!!!!!

Just for arguments sake ... say we do form a group

and reg. for 1 year ... what's to stop .TV owners

from raising renewal costs to 10 million in subsequent

years ?

The name might have been dropped because of very high renewal fee, who knows.

.TV has a good racket going ... when they see a domain

doing well they have the option of raising prices enough

to bust the company that has the domain and take over

his business ... or I am missing something ?

:alien:

Yes you do, there's no racket. As long as you own the name the .TV Corp can't increase the renewal fee. When the name drops, back to the registry and available for registration, then don't worry the .TV Corp adjusts the reg fee and I don't think the .TV Corp would have missed this one !

The name was owned since Oct 2000, I really doubt the initial reg fee was at this :'( level.

I only saw this name once it had expired - how come no one made an offer to the guy who owned it prior to the recent expiry date....I know I would have offered upto $50,000 one time fee for that.....

It was $1,000,000 way back when Argos they did a deal buying sports with movies and one other.

AND FOR THE LAST TIME THE PRICE DOES NOT GET RAISED this nonsense of if you make it successful Verisign raises renewals that is not true

I'm pretty sure the .TV registry would consider offers for less and would work with the registrant on a locked-in renewal fee. Sports.TV has remarkable branding potential in addition to being an awesome generic.

Sorry to steal the thread for a bit, but I have a question: I've seen this 70% discount alluded to by a number of people now, and when I go to renew premiums, it is not giving me that discount. How do you get that discount?

As far as Sports.tv is concerned, I actually think News.tv is a more worthy million dollar name, but Sports.tv is almost as awesome. Frankly they're all high at a million dollars a year, but I would imagine News.tv being regged before either of the other two.

Yes indeed, i got a call from Fatmatu this afternoon letting me know that the name is now formally on offer and that the 70% discount applies.......so we just need to find 30 people who think alike, would have no differences of opinion, and be prepared to come up with $10,000 .....

Back to planet earth, does anyone think that anyone is gonna take the bait for $300,000 - cause that is the ultimate boost for our reg portfolios....

That would be my guess.. but if I had the money, that would be one .TV I'd definitely consider..

I'd be worried too about higher renewals in the future..

They let it drop because of the renewal fee.. I've never liked the idea of tiered registration fees.. it should be first come, first served IMO.

Only one other .tv I'd rate higher: cable.tv

Miller ! we posted the previous scrap at the same time.

I hope they can sell some names as a one time investment and renewal fee at 50$..

Kids.TV for 10000$ as a one time investment is the best .

HHahahhaa. Nice post Millers.

ONE CLARIFICATION: When I said the name might have been dropped because of high renewal fee, I mean, High renewal fee which is the same as High initial reg fee. I do not mean a hiked up renewal fee different from initial reg fee. I know that there is no concept like increasing renewal fee upon success of a name or what ever.

On the side note, I remember reading a story where the phone invented by Graham Bell, was commented upon by somebody, who the heck going to use this dumb instrument. Now can we live without telephones, God knows.

Wow, that was intelligent and it certainly added to this conversation, but you are entitled to your opinion, however idiotic that may be. Many of us realize there is some inherent speculation involved in the .tv extension, but I believe the research would show that there is a positive trend for the .tv extension, particularly in general keywords as well as brand names. Lets ignore .tv names that trade on brand names for obvious trademark issues. That leaves us with general keywords such as car.tv, network.tv, IT.tv, cartoons.tv, motorcycle.tv, or HD.tv. While .tv may never be as big as .com, .tv certainly has a future even if you want to get on the fence here and scream at the top of your lungs that the opposite is true.

The Internet means everyone can have their own television station and can broadcast their own ideas. With the number of available .com's dwindling, what extension do you think will be the next favorite? Certainly not dot org. I suggest you pull your head out of those two cheeks below your back and pay attention to the world around you.

The members in this .tv extension know exactly what the .tv extension represents. They also cannot be swayed by unsupported assertions such as yours. If you would like to debate the merits of your claims or those that I have made, I would be happy to do so.

At this time in history there is less speculation in a mediocre .TV that is developed than a premium .com parked.
