A mystery bidder has paid $28m (£20m) for a seat on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's first crewed spaceflight by the billionaire's Blue Origin company. This winning bid was made at Saturday's auction, with Blue Origin tweeting that the winner's identity would be revealed in the coming weeks. The bidding process attracted interest from more than 140 countries. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57457378

The Blue Origin project domain name blueorigin.com has been registered since May 2000.

I could maybe understand a million, or a few million, in an auction situation ...at $28m you just hate money

@redemo He's wise enough not to pay nearly $30m for a seat to get to space. He'll pay 6 figures like the other sensible people (then over time, lower)

    Big mistake.
You can do with Virtual Reality
What will happen if you have constipation or diarrhea on the day it takes off?
The $hit will come out quickly due to gravity.

Does international law apply in space? Could you register a domain name from the moon?

    $28 million. That is crazy.

This is money that could be spent on quality (totally not a bubble) investments like NFT art. :xf.grin:

For every billionaire who buys a ticket to be on these private space ships there should also be equal number of regular people who have been selected through a drawing to take the trip to the lower orbit.

The reason that I say a trip to the "lower orbit" is because leaving Earth's orbit completely should only be allowed to be done by AI controlled robots or artificial lifeforms.

By the way I myself don't feel very good about sitting on top of a missile to go to space, I just wait till the technology improves a little more so that I can take the trip aboard an antigravity flying car that can ascend and descend at a safe and tolerable speed.

    IMO

It's fair.. beyond a certain net worth value, vanity becomes almost the most important thing for many people. This earns that person bragging rights all their life.

Musk's would surely be cheaper than Bezo's ticket price.
