Here is something I noticed on Google today.

Two weeks back, when I searched for '.app' in google search, I got all app related results but nothing related to '.app'. Since then I had to type '.app domain' to get results related to '.app' in it.

Today, I just typed '.app' in google search and, viola!, the top 5 results were all '.app' related.

So, google does seem to be incorporating .app in its searches effectively

I apologize if someone has already reported this, but I noticed today that DNpric.es shows 10 aftermarket sales of .app domain names in May, for an average price of $210. All but one were three letter names (the other is RideSharing) All sales at GoDaddy Auction. Can see list at this link;

Remember the Google sandbox will place names in certain positions and then readjust later, good luck

It's gone quiet in here. Total registrations for .app are down to sub 400 a day according to ntldstats.com. Worrying signs?

Only so many decent names to register out there.... Now will the sales follow in time?

I think this is a good test/benchmark to see how .web will do. IMO these two stand the best chance at being accepted by end users compared to other random $1 extensions.

Edited to add: .com is and will be king for a good while at the least. But will reasonable extensions gain popularity over time? I think .app and .web will be good indicators of the future of the market.

I think that the natural state of any extension is to rise to somewhat above number of meaningful names, and then to not move up or down much after that, except when the pricing is volatile so many drop after 1 year of bargain prices.

To me it seems that already more .app are registered than make sense. For example, there are registered 570 .app extension domains with the word blockchain in them! You can search on any word using this free tool:

I think it is encouraging that there are already a number of .app after market sales on NameBio (and DNPric.es) in .app at reasonable amounts.

Successful domain investors in app will be those who find nuggets the majority miss, and that are highly valued by developers but not subject to trademark issues - a challenging balancing act!

Of course if all app developers can be convinced they need an app extension, the growth rate will be higher than now. We will see.

While some .app have reached Alexa 1M, it is interesting that the .icu extension, which is newer and has much less publicity, has a significantly higher rate of Alexa 1M per number of registered domains.

This is a lot of wasted money, you have to focus on premium keywords that match the extension perfectly with any of these new GTLD's (Music.App, Home.Loans, Live.Sport, Golf.Club, Online.Dating etc etc)
