I'm just getting started and am enjoying learning all the things. It's quite amazing to me that so many folks get a slice of the proverbial pie (domain registrars, brokers, auction sites) - in fact they get a large slice.

One issue i'm trying to determine is if I should just setup a landing page on my own with a buy now button that redirects back to the registrar when clicked - the other options seem pretty seedy. I just listed my first domain with afternic, and that's just another slice, and it's time consuming.

Any feedback from more experienced folks would be great (and that's all of you)

    Hi

you can always make your own landing page
you can park you name with a PPC provider and enable the "This Domain Name May be for Sale" option
you can use a marketplace site like afternic, sedo, unireg, etc
you can list on an auction platform like namejet
plenty of options for you to choose from

but yes, everybody wants a piece of your potential sale
so consider that, when setting a price to offset the cut they will take

    imo...

Ya, literally, a big flashing "for sale" with ads all around would be self parking.

is there a benefit to having your own page? I was just going to spin up an html page, and make it look nice. The landing pages i've seen the auction sites have are treacherous too.

yes, there are benefits, in that you can put whatever you want on it

whether that be adsense, affiliate links, a custom logo and even content related to that domain name

I put up one just for fun > www.urlpick.com/nexcure.html

the only issue is hosting cost, which you don't have to worry about when using other domainer services.

    imo...

It's all about traffic, if you think you can drive some considerable traffic then why not it's worth a try, and if it didn't work you can always go for the marketplaces, and those fees and everything. Just my two cents, and we have our landing pages at keua.net if you want to take a look, not bad, no real serious offer yet though.

I just recently launched my own portfolio to which I have all of my domains pointing to. I also have my domains listed on Afternic and Sedo, so if potential buyers see it there or one their affilate sites (GoDaddy.com, etc), my hope would be they would type in the domain in their browser and end up on my custom landing page. I've also setup buttons for Escrow.com too. The cool thing about making your own site, is that you have complete control over the customized features you want. Some of my domains are getting visibility on Google now too. I think it's totally worth building your own. It will be a long term asset long into the future.

after playing around a bit with Efty, I really like their features, and their landing pages are pretty sleek. Easy to use interface too.
