New Domain Parking Requirements

Sedo is implementing a few new changes to our parked domains network that will be rolled out starting this week. One of these industry-wide changes is the implementation of organic search results on parked domains. Organic searches will appear at the end of a search results page that is generated when visitors click on a related link or enter a search term. These unpaid links should improve the user experience and the relevancy of the content. Another change required of our advertising partner, is that visitor clicks on your parked domains will now open the target page in the same window.

oh man :( i don't like this it supposed to sell them for the paid links. i would be interested in this if they do separate it from free membership of sedo and adapt another form of membership which is paid.

What's the rationale behind this? I don't park with Sedo but this can only reduce revenue including for Sedo themselves...?

Keith, a Sedo rep who answers questions on a official Sedo thread here:

has posted a response there:

Hi All,

The recent change does not affect the first page your visitors see when they visit your parked domain. Also, it will not make any difference to those visitors who click on an advertising link for a sponsor.

However, if a visitor clicks on one of the words or phrases under the "Related Links" or "Popular/Related Searches" section, or enters their own search term, the new page will display a list of sponsored ads followed directly by unpaid results that are similar to those found by using a search engine directly. Sponsored links will still be present and the most prominent.

For example, visit http://keithawhite.com, and click on one of the Related Searches on the right, or enter a search term. The new page will look about the same, except that if you scroll down you'll notice an extended section that looks a bit different (and, of course, the ads now reflect the modified search term). This new section is also discreetly marked as "Websearch Results" rather than "Sponsored listings." Don't worry, also, I won't get revenue if you accidentally click on anything. ;)

This is a change that comes from our advertising provider in an effort to help improve conversion for all parked domains. Again, it should not detract from the quality of your onvolvement in the program.

Hope that helps to clarify. Take care!

Always,
Keith

Still makes no sense to me. I have linked his thread to here so perhaps he will come by and answer in more detail - ie. how is this supposed to help make us money?

It will only reduce income . As there will be more links competing for visitor
clicks.

They are supposedly doing this so that people who arrive at parking pages will have a more pleasent feeling about it and therefore not "check-out" next time they see a parking page as they might find something usefull, so longer term it would help all of us.

The other aspect is that google may be squeezing the parkingpages and "force" them to add more content to the site.

According to "Jay" fabulous and domainsponsor have been doing the same thing for a while already:

This is Google slowly trying to kill the domain channel. It the classic killing of competitors.

If they can make sure we get less clicks then they can start to marginalize us and then cut us off eventually. They will be implementing more and more things like this until we are powerless. It is part of the grand plan.

What do you think Smart Pricing is? Advertiser option to remove parked pages from their advertising? Not replacing the the head of the domain channel at Google? The job has now been empty for months. Paying us less when RPC has been going up steadily?

It only a matter of time before publishers get pissed and develop their best domains thus taking them out of "parking pool" or sell them to end users, thus making the domain channel less valuable to Google and then all will begin to snowball downhill from there.

I'm serious. :|

You are the first person I have heard so far give a logical explination for why all this is happening.

Unfortunately ...I beleive everything you say, over the last 8 months or so I have continued to find it harder and harder to show relevant links (for my chosen keywords) even though I know for a fact the correct advertisers are there for them.

...as accentnepal so nicely put it - "Relevant ads would be helpful. Hard to sell grapefruit to people wanting airplanes."

yeah I'm pissed ...time to get developing !

Google will own the world by the year 2050. Earth will eventually be named Google. And any type of food you eat will have a wrapper that says Google! :hehe:

oh man this isn't good. that just means if you get clicks you won't get paid? or only on some links? Either way that's not cool for those who park.

When i 1st read this at sedo frontpage i was pissed because i felt that once more i was never asked about a change that will not benefit me.

I always say that you can have good things happen out of bad thing, in this case sedo, google and parking companies in general push me to develop my domains or sell them to end users. I usually work best under pressure so i m on my way developing my domains and make revenue out of them not depending on sedo or other parking companies.

Its so clear that SEDO focus more on brokering domains than parking
