Sucks for the guy who probably owned it before you and never removed it from his/her Sedo account. Now they have to come up with that good old explanation that it expired and they never removed it from their account. That's why I always remove domains when I sell or delete them.

You probably made their day for a few minutes, until they realized the name expired a month or two ago..

...f*ckin name was listed by previous owner. simple as that

when you have 2+ mln domains listed sifting out expired, dropped, owner changed ones is not a trivial task. no one in his right mind would check whois every day for milions of names, monitor changes and send out thousands emails with "please confirm you still want the f*ckin name to be listed at our f*ckin marketplace".. or would you?

That's like saying since WalMart has thousands of stores across the country, with a total in the millions of items across all of those store shelves, do you really think they would keep track of all those items? You bet your bottom line they do! They keep track of everything so they know exactly where they stand. If it means buying a piece of software to do it for you then you do that. If it meant having something custom written to handle the task for you, the amount paid would probably be minimal to having these kinds of situations occur on a regular basis. Every item that hits a store shelf gets scanned coming in and scanned going out. If someone has "millions" of domains and can't manage them all then maybe they're in over their head..JMO

Walmart example is incorrect. Sedo is much like Ebay rather than Walmart: users list their own inventory that a marketplace has no control over, contrary to Walmart. Ideally every single item on sale should be checked against its description, image, expiry dates, certificate of origin, etc etc... which is not technically viable. thats why when you buy on ebay you got full buyers protection if anything goes wrong.. same with sedo - if the guy bought his own name and paid they would make full refund as soon as they discover the listing was not legit because the name was dropped/sold/etc..

unfortunately we live in a world where whois data your registrar provide via their whois server is not even required to be presented in any uniform way. which makes a task of reliably quering it and parsing en masse, monitoring changes and requesting confirmations from owners on a daily basis a really tough challenge. its cheaper to issue refunds and revert deals case by case.. i dont think Ebay has any more control and manages goods that sell via their site any better than Sedo does with domains.. IMHO

The previous owner of xxxxxxxxxxxx.com was a Rightside Group, LTD (Rightside.co). :-,

That does happen. I have bought domains and I still see them listed at other places that I never listed. Explain to them. I am sure you will have your account back

Sedo could check if it's listed domains are registered, if not, they should be removed from the marketplace.

One namepros member told me that he once sold a (BIN) domain on Sedo that he previously let drop but was fortunate enough to register it by hand before the buyer noticed ...

I recently bought a stolen LLL.com from Sedo.

It was me who notified Sedo it was stolen when I got in contact with the original owner of the domain who informed me of all this.

It took 3+ weeks to have my money returned to which came back under $40usd short. I am aware it's not much but its the principle. I notified them, but they were quick to blame my bank which was not the case.

I have not heard from them since, and it appears, my money was used to cover their bank fees when wiring my money back to Australia. They won't admit it though.
