Sedo announced new sales templates in an effort to bring more attention to your domain names. According to the release you need to use sl1.sedo.com & sl2.sedo.com. If the domain uses the new sales layout, has a fixed price and is purchased through the Sedo marketplace, the commission is only 10%. This is how it will impact domain sale conversions: Works on any device: template … [Read more...]

Need to ditch the blue footer. Takes the eyes away.

sedo validation is too slow.

Are there actually any benefits from switching to Sedo? I'm pretty sure DAN are still charging 9%.

No, it is not. Just change dns or add txt records before listing and in a couple of minutes you'll have your domain ownership checked.

Doesn't always work that fast, especially if the domain has been previously listed.
I listed a couple of names there last week and it took a couple of days even after changing nameservers / txt records.
Adding the CNAME does seem to work quicker though.

I only moved my XYZ's over (600) because they do fast transfer on those.

xxx people have already viewed this offer in red colour is a smart marketing tactic, even if it can be manipulated by automated bots and V.P.N. abuse. The feature stokes urgency. Be interesting to see multivariate and A/B test with and without that feature. Also be useful to see multiple changing messages like xxx people have already viewed this offer then xxx people have made an offer then this domain previously sold for xxx. Anything to stoke urgency, but also has to be relevant and legitimate. Agree @James Rayers get rid of the blue footer, in fact anything distracting. This design still has some way to go. I don't like the buy button, it's just not that inviting and yellow is far too neutral. In fact the page overall is very unfocused toward the C.T.A. Good start, work in progress @Sedo.

Would it also be helpful to allow the seller to place their domain descriptions on this template? Currently, the seller's description still only appears after the buyer signs in. The advantage of Dan is allowing the description up front on the lander.

It would be interesting to see how people compare this to Google's new landing pages

Too bad it doesn't offer https / SSL version.

If you type the domain in the browser bar, you will not reach it if you have visited it previously and had ssl.

Also existing links to the domain will not bring people there to see it's for sale.

Edit: So far only Dan seems to offer this.

Nice! I like it. Overall clean and modern, no noise and to the point. Competitive with the 10% comm, very good.

I'm getting https on a random domain I typed in.

You are getting https on sedo. Not on the domain.

Type https://domain.tld and you will get an error.

Yes, httpS on domains works. Maybe they need to some time to issue ssl certs.

The ceriticates are not from letsencrypt, but from:

issuer: C=US; O=DigiCert Inc; OU=www.digicert.com; CN=Encryption Everywhere DV TLS CA - G1

... and those are 1-year certificates, not 3 months!

It appears that Sedo is paying for a service from
https://www.websecurity.digicert.com/theme/encryption-everywhere

Other providers: Dynadot also does this in the background for the domains on Dynadot marketplace (dynadot DNS servers should be assigned). They use free letsencrypt. On the other hand, Godaddy, being ssl certificates issuing authority itself (!), did not bother to set ssl forwarding on ns5/ns6 afternic servers. Unfortunately.

I put up this domain a couple days ago after moving it from Dan. The 69 "people" are all bots. I know this from Dan/GA stats. So its bullsh*t, but does look good to a buyer.

Is it really good or bad looking? Not sure. The buyer may also guess that if so many people looked, but nobody purchased, then the item may not be that good (overpriced maybe).

Did you notice when it began showing? After 50 visits?

Must be shown after any number of visits. In a parallel thread with similar subject, there are screenshots referring to "21 people". Whether the number is reset and how frequently is another question.

Imo, Sedo should either:

- start filtering bots and let the seller check/uncheck "show real stats". Different sellers may have different preferences...

OR

- stop displaying the nonsense numbers

Yup. I'm sticking with DAN. For now at least.
