Hello, Someone made a comment on the boards yesterday that only the bidders taht were involved with the last 3rd Sedo auction should be allowed to participate in the upcoming Sedo 3 auction.Although I never thought of that ,I do think it's a very valid and good point.
Sedo & mtld should not make the playing field any more competitive that it already was on Dec 5th and allow other participants to jump in.
On the other hand I don't think that this would happen due to the fact that, how can you shut someone out of an auction that is a member of Sedo..
Response..Easy ..they didn't want to participate on Dec 5th.

Let's hear it ,Do you think that only bidders from the Dec 5th ,Sedo 3 mobi auction should be allowed to bid on January 23,2008 ??????
I Do !!!!
Regards, Tophatter :imho:

Yes I agree that this would be the most fair way to conduct the auction,

But MTLD and SEDO with profits only in mind will DEFIANTLY not choose this course.

Almost certainly, not all bidders who put in a bid in the canceled December 5th round would be willing and able to bid in the January re-run.

Some potential bidders who wanted to bid on December 5th but couldn't (just picking one minor reason, say because it was 3am or 4am in their time zone at the time when all of the auctions were scheduled to close) may be willing and able to do so in the January re-run (especially if the end times are staggered this time, as they should have been to begin with).

Should the former group above be allowed to sell (or otherwise transfer) their right to bid to the latter group (if the proposed restrictions were to be adopted)?

Well, I mean you can slice and dice it all you want but if I wasn't able to get to Christes Auction house to bid on a painting because it didn't suit my schedule than that would be my problem.I'm referring to any willing and able person that was affiliated with the bidding process on Dec 5th for the 1st or the 2nd part of the joke.
Mobi Cheap, are you referring to folks that were in the 1st part of the auction & couldn't get to the extended due to time restrictions??

Bald One, I don't care one way or another if the auction runs or not.I only hope fairness prevails and if it does run may that auction be fair but again,What's fair at this point ???

That's the thing, after what happened happened (and I would be the first to agree that it shouldn't have) all one can realistically hope to achieve is reduce the level of 'aggregate unfairness'

There are multiple reasons why people couldn't bid in the first auction and I just mentioned one example that hasn't been mentioned so far.

The most egregious examples have already been covered, including people waiting - as they are perfectly entitled to - for the optimal time to submit their first bid (which of course is in the last 10 minutes before the scheduled expiry of the Sedo auctions) and couldn't bid at all, due to the auctioneer's system not being available.

I'd say even more egregious were the people who had already placed proxy bids that couldn't be executed due to the problems. But I agree on your main point, in any case...

If they don't choose this option, I wouldn't be surprised if 'Alvaro' buys up every single name and none of them get developed into great websites :td:

If fairnes is the objective, and considering what the buyers of the first two rounds of auctions have been through, it does seem that restricting the auction to those bidders would be something that mTLD could do to help ease the burden. The second auction should be included as many bidders were waiting for the last minutes to bid, but those who missed both rounds have little to stand on. Alvaro would be eligible because he bid in the second round, and for all we know he bid in the first round as well. But he does not seem to be the type who would grab everything.

MTLD and Sedo should certainly not obtain additional profits due to this mess. And I agree the publicity could bring in additional bidders. But it is hard to imagine them taking the high road here, although they would gain far more in respect than they would lose in money.

Tophatter...this is a tough one. From one standpoint, I would agree that those who were in the last one should participate but at the same time I think that there may have been individuals that could not get there bids in because the problem and those also should be allowed. If I had to err on the side of fairness...I would open the bidding out to everyone again. Just a thought. Nice post Tophatter. :)

I think they should start the bidding at the prices it left off at. If someone wants to bid more then so be it, but if not then the second round bidders get the names and have to pay the price of their last bids.
