I received an email today requesting me to include one of my domains in the "next DOMAINfest Global 2009 Hollywood Live and Extended Domain Auction".

I guess I'm new to this, but is this legit and what exactly is DOMAINfest? Are there pros/cons?

Thanks

How have you not heard of this? It's a pretty significant live auction

No, I've not heard of it. I just got an email requesting me to verify domain ownership.

I guess I don't understand why I received the offer - It was nothing I requested, so that is why I am a bit suspicious. :)

Unless you submitted the domain to the auction yourself then perhaps you need to investigate further.

Normally you will only be asked to verify ownership and to confirm that you wish the name to be included if you had entered the name via one of the associate houses, snapnames, Moniker etc.

I put it on Sedo (but so are all my other names) - I just purchased the name a couple weeks ago, so maybe the old owner had submitted it.

Holy shit, did you know if the previous owner listed it with Moniker there is a fee for removing it from the auction?. I doubt you would be held liable for it though. The previous owner will be billed $150 for taking it out of the auction if I remember right. I just got a notice my tulips.us was accepted. Money in the bank, lol.

I'll let it run in the auction, but is there a way to specify a reserve price?

Holy Cow,

Monikers Terms are pretty insane.....

"or all names submitted by Seller to Moniker/SnapNames for sale in inclusion at live and online Auctions conducted by Moniker, Seller grants to Moniker/SnapNames the exclusive right and authority to sell such domain names for a period of (a) sixty days (60) calendar days from the date of such submission (whether through online submission process, Addenda, e-mail or other written correspondence) or (b) sixty (60) days from the conclusion of any auction or private sale taking place after the submission/declaring of the Name(s) on the ADDENDA, whichever occurs later (the "Exclusive Moniker Sale Period"). To avoid resubmission of names for multiple auctions and events, if, at the time of submission of a name, the seller of the name elects to have any name which is not sold at a particular auction to be sold in subsequent auctions run by Moniker/SnapNames, the Exclusive Moniker Sale Period will automatically renew at the end of each term unless Seller notifies Moniker/SnapNames in writing within 15 days of expiration of the Exclusive Moniker Sale Period that it is terminating such period. "

So once the auction is over Moniker is the only place that can sell your name for 60 days, once that 60 days expires you MUST write them within 15 days to cancel the agreement or moniker will renew the agreement....

So for 180 days after the auction you can't even try to sell your own name.. If you do be prepared to give Moniker their commission, even if they did no work...

Your name will be listed in the auction inventory. You can view the inventory of names here:

http://marketplacepro.moniker.com/auction/index.html

You may want to double check the payout/owner info they have the name listed under. There is also a "SnapNames" account that might be associated to this name.

I would e-mail moniker and let them know you are the new owner and let them know you are in the dark on this. You'll want to make sure all your info is in place.

However .... if you got the "owner verification / auction acceptance" email in the last few days then your info is "whois" current. You'll note the email is "action requested" and will prompt you to verify the auction terms etc....

Otherwise the previous owner would get the email ... and would be drafting an email to you explaining how and why "the sale" with you has to be reversed LOL..... :D

I got my acceptance email today .....

Good luck

Good luck with this,

If the reserve is high enough you may want to keep it in the auction.

It's pretty frustrating actually. I've left a phone message for Moniker yesterday and opened a ticket this morning, but still no response.

This could be the case. If you submit a domain and it goes to auction and doesn't sell, the seller has to Request the domain name be released from Moniker or it could be considered for a later auction.

You should contact Bari directly (if you have a Moniker account) or Michael White. I think either or them could clear this up for you.

I second that.

Yofie,

I don't remember reading that in my contract. There is a 60 no sale hold if I remember right. Is this true that a name has to be requested to be released after the auction or Moniker can resubmit it for another auction?

I just got a call from Xavier, and they are looking into the situation.
