So there I was cruising through the list of yesterdays dropped names, and I spotted one that I thought would be useful for a political site. The name was CoalEmission.com. I had a quick look in Google, and there seemed to be lots of info available, so I registered it. Then I thought that as there are several emissions associated with coal burning, maybe the plural would be better. I checked google trends, and it confirmed that the plural gets a lot more searches. Checking who.is revealed that the plural was also available, so I registered that as well. So now I've got coalemissions.com as well as coalemission.com for a political site that I may not get round to developing.

The moral is - Do your research before you hit the register button. :)

I thought you would describe how you were on a safari and so absorbed in reading the daily drop list, that you almost missed a lion sneakily approaching your open vehicle.

I'm trying to stay away for a couple of days. I'm building a landing page template, and I think I'm making it over complex.

    expired domain .net

There are around 2 million dropped .coms there.

Always remember that these names were not renewed by the previous owner, and the registrar and a load of professionals have picked through the list before they were allowed to drop. Most of the names are rubbish, but there are sometimes a few gems that were missed. You need to be careful before you reg any of them, and do some research to work out what you can do with a name before you reg it.

Thanks for bumping this - you've reminded me that I've done nothing with those names. At the time, I was going to build a political empire, and change the path of Brexit and the EU. :) I seem to have been a bit distracted, and yacht names are the thing for me at the moment. That's a bit silly as they are out of season, but maybe that is a good time to buy.

Kuffy, So your coal doesnt gather dust. Gather some data first. Here is what these past months I have done with a bunch of keyword domains I have. Put them up on Dub.io, and spend several hours looking for various trade and industry rss feeds, choose “coal emission” and “clean coal” and keywords like that. Once you have gathered articles for a month, revisit it. I have been doing this for a few months, its great free data gathering resource. Company names, industry articles, authors names, prominent coal advocates or opponents, ideas of stuff to write about. Etc. Step 2 is to take and populate a WP or HTML site with data you gathered and then contact outbound if you want to find a home for them.

Btw, I have most all the daily drop lists for 2017 parsed to 2 words, just have not figured out how to distribute it or populate it on a website.

So in a roundabout way you are saying don't waste your time with dropped names?
