I am looking at a .info name and am trying to evaluate its worth. Let's pretend it is the "StockInvesting.info". This is similar in a way to what I am looking at, in that it is two words, but two words that definitely go together; actually the two words in my real target name go together even better.

For the sake of argument, let's say StockInvesting.com is worth $100,000. What value would you place on StockInvesting.info?

I've seen reports of .info names rising nicely lately. It seems to be a universally understood term. Who knows, perhaps in the future, when someone wants to learn "about" something, they will actually key in keyword.info right from the start, or right after keyword.com.

As a general guideline, I would say that the .info is worth 10-20% of the .com

I think the hypothetical domain name you've chosen is a particularly bad (or good) example.

The TLD extension of Stockinvesting.com implies some kind of commercial site and there's a lot of money in stock investing. Maybe it's some kind of daytrading website or something. This domain is worth a lot.

The TLD of Stockinvesting.info on the other hand implies that this website is merely about information about stock investing. Maybe some kind of dictionary about the most important stock market terms or something.

I don't know what the average value of a .info domain is compared to the .com domain with the same name. I do however believe that in the case of stockinvesting the value of the .info domain is below the average com/info value ratio. That means if the average .info domain is maybe 20% (figure is made up) of the .com domain, this particular example might be worth only 10 - 15%.

This is not the same for all .info domains. For websites where the domain implies clearly informational content the value might be higher than the average com/info value ratio, maybe 25 - 30% of the corresponding .com domain.

A better example might be DiabetesRemedies.com then. The .com site could also offer vitamins and things to help fight colds, but (even though my still poor example doesn't relate this) it would mostly contain information on the causes of Diabetes and the treatments, supplements, lifestyle changes, etc to combat it.

So, people would mostly go to the site for information, and perhaps get an upsell to purchase vitamins, books, etc. But, for the sake of this discussion, assume that the primary goal for the visitor is to get information on a subject.

IMO your example "StockInvesting.info" is worth maybe low to mid $xxx reseller. Too general me thinks, even for development. Max price on tier 1 infos (this is not) would be mid $5 figures.

I agree this specific example would be worth just a few hundred dollars. But the real name I'm looking at would be considered tier 1. It's two words, but two words like cellphone is two words.
