Hi.

The questions I am about to ask are asked frequently, but the nature of domain parking is such that it changes from year to year. I heard that you can easily make a living from it 10 years back. Here are my questions:

1) What is the best parking service in 2018? I've heard the best things about parkingcrew. Also, I've heard that Voodoo is the only one which allows picture ads (which must be good). Is this the case?

2) Is domain parking worth it in this day and age? Can you make consistent profit if you have some good ones?

3) Say I had a mistyped version of a popular website which has close to a million unique visitors every day...how much could this earn? I know it's a general question, but is there a meaningful reply at all? Thanks all for the replies.

Welcome to NamePros !
If I only had one choice - it would be ParkingCrew. They, along with every other Google feed have suffered recently due to changes made by G. The mandatory change from 1 ad to 3 ads affected RPC negatively. Now, instead of showing the highest paid ad only, users can click on other ads which may not be the highest paid ad.

For fail listed domains (blacklisted by Google) - we've had the best results with Skenzo (Yahoo feed).
If you are serious about parking and plan to make a major investment - you may wish to look at one of the traffic aggregators - like Above or ParkLogic.

There has been a lot of testing done regarding the benefits of photo ads and although I too thought they
would help with traction and click thru - according to numerous parking execs - that is not the case.

Good parking domains are still in demand and there are many aspects to parking and ways to approach it.
You can be consistently profitable - many Namepro followers of this topic are.

As to your question about earnings for a typo - that is impossible to gauge. The quality of the traffic and the segment determine the revenue per click. If it is a Google type - that would pay very poorly and likely go mostly to zero click. If it was an insurance or medical typo - it could be $$ per click.

Good luck to you.

It was easy and true roughly 10 years ago but its extremely unlikely today for various reasons. For example, in that time-frame and for several straight years I was making about 7k to 8k a month from ads but that stopped suddenly when I was very professionally click-bombed (for revenge related to a refund issue), allegedly by a very well known domainer who was active at domain forums.

Thank you for your words and suggestions.

Say it was a porn site with hundreds of thousands of unique visitors every day. I mean, I know it's impossible to estimate as it depends on so many factors, but is a rough estimate possible? Would it at least be worth the registry price?

The reason why this is appealing is because I live in a third world country. Because of currency exhange rates, what I earn per month is very little to what, say, an American earns. Because of this, what you guys (assuming you're from a first world country) might consider as some money on the side might be a living to me.

7-8k dollars is INSANE. I'd be rich. Of course, I would never expect to earn that much but 1k per month would definitely make me quit my job. I suspect that is hard to achieve too, but I'll take anything I can get as long as it's worth some money.

Also, I forgot to ask another thing:

As far as I'm aware, when you park a page, it is unindexed, reducing the chance someone would visit it. Wouldn't it then be better to make a small, one page-website yourself and earn more money? Why don't people do that instead of parking?

And lastly, I've taken a look at parkingcrew and a few others but they all seem to require a minimum number of domains to park. One of the sites was 5 domains min and I have 5-6. It s advisable to just park them all, instead of the two mistypes I wanted? Can I park just 1 or 2 domains somewhere? I just want to test what kind of money this earns, if any.

Answers are MUCH appreaciated, thanks guys.

Don't know a whole lot about the current progression of parking, but I do know that seeking out your own advertisers and building a site to advertise relevant content is a tried and true method that should show returns in an amount tolerable or even awesome, pretty much all based on the amount and quality of effort put in(to the domain and site), the demand and products of the niche, choices made along the way with design, ad partners etc.
Be creative and fly free! I advise steering clear of possible trademark issues with certain typos, especially when money becomes involved.

Welcome! :)

1) I have used Bodis with some mixed success.

2) According to people that have been domaining much longer than I have, parking revenue is basically dead at this point compared to 5-10+ years ago, with some exceptions. Creating content and monetizing your domain with ads/affiliate marketing seems far more attractive these days then parking.

3) Agree with @alwaysforGod that I would stay away from any domains that could cause Trademark/UDRP issues.
