I purchased a premium domain name via Godaddy on 02.13 (checking availability and it shows premium)
When checking the whois record, this domain name is registered at Fabulous.com.
I thought it will be transferred to my Godaddy account later, but it seems something is weird.
When I made the order on 02.13, this domain name shows an open whois record (Person A)
However, the whois record is changed to Person B on 02.14 and it is changed to privacy a few hours later the same day.
Then the DNS is changed to SEDO today 02.15, and this domain name is still locked.

Then I initiated a Live Chat with the Godaddy support staff, the following are the answers he gave me.

Godaddy - It appears the domain is going through escrow verification without any issues. It will appear in your account in about 24-48 hours from here.

Me - This domain name is registered with another registrar, and the status is LOCKED, how could it be transfer to me in 24 - 48 hours?

Godaddy - My apologies that was time frame for escrow verification however I do see the domain will not become transferrable until 4/12/2016 due to an ICANN lock.

Godaddy - It will be transferred to you after this time. Unfortunately it is an international lock and we do have to wait until that date for it to be transferred.

Me - This domain name is registered with Fabulous.com, can I receive it at Fabulous?

Godaddy - It would actually take the same time for the domain to be released from Fabulous as well as it is an ICANN lock.

Me - What is an ICANN lock?

Me - From what I can see, the whois records changed from Persona A to Person B after my purchase and the whois record became private later, what does this mean?

Godaddy - The domain will be transferred to you. ICANN is the international registry of names and numbers. They hold domain names when transfers are engaged to make sure the transfer is secure.

Godaddy - The Privacy will not affect the transfer.

Me - How if the seller changes mind? Is there any thing Godaddy can do to make sure I can get this domain name?

Godaddy - You have purchased the domain from the seller. This is a verified transaction and there is not cancellation at this point. The domain will be transferred on 4/12/2016

Me - Has godaddy tried to contact the seller? any response?

Godaddy - I assure you that this transaction was successful and the domain will come to your account. Please allow this time for the domain to be added to your account.

Me - I'm sorry but when you check a locked domain name, it will show Status: clientTransferProhibited
https://www.icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited, is this an ICANN lock?

Godaddy - yes

Me - but all my locked domain names has this status and I can unlock them manually.

Godaddy - Yes any domain once transferred to another company with different owner information will incur the ICANN lock.

Me - When I purchased this domain name, it's with a public whois record. But the owner's info is changed and became private later.

Me - It seems this domain name just changed hands and being set whois privacy yesterday

Me - how could you assure it's still with the owner that I made purchased from?

Godaddy - It is going through the transfer process which can cause changes to the whois record.

Godaddy - I see that all is normal for this domain transfer. Please allow time for the domain to be transferred.

Me - I mean, when I made the purchase order with Godady, this domain name shows whois record to Person A, but after one day, it changes to Person B, then Person B set the domain to privacy. And Person B changed the DNS.

Me - How could Person A changes the domains owner info to Person B after the deal?

Godaddy - While in transfer it can change to an ICANN account which will show as private.

Me - Why it will be changed to an ICANN account during a deal transaction?

Godaddy - For the ICANN lock

Godaddy - For 60 days it will stay in an ICANN account to secure the domain.

Me - I wonder does every premium domain deal via Godaddy will go through this 60 days ICANN lock?

Godaddy - Only if the information is changed on the domain. So yes the majority of them go through this.

Me - Once the domain is being ICANN locked, can the seller change DNS?

Godaddy - No it not possible to make changes to it.

Me - But this domain name is changed to whois privacy yesterday, and the DNS is changed to SEDO today. How this happens?

Godaddy - I am not able to investigate all details of the whois. However this domain will be transferred to you.

Me - Ok, thanks, is there anyway I can check the transaction status from my godaddy account?

Godaddy - You can view the transaction receipt but there is not a way to view the status.

Me - Can you see any action from the seller from your end?

Godaddy - No as it is still locked.

Godaddy - Please allow until 4/12/2016 for it to be unlocked.

I bought a domain via this process before and like you, I was very confused. That said, the domain did in fact transfer to my account after 60 days.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it's very confused.
I just want to know who did the ICANN LOCK to this domain name? Godaddy? The seller made changes to registrant info? The domain's registrar (escrow process)?

I can't remember the exact details and why it took 60 days. It was registered at a different registrar and I bought it via BIN at Godaddy. They assured me it would transfer and after 60 days it did.

It sounds like you'll get the domain.

Transferring your domain name to a new registrar

Please note that you may not transfer your domain name to a new registrar within the first 60 days after initial registration, or the first 60 days after a transfer.

Sigh, just got the update from Godaddy today, good job, Godaddy! :(

It has come to our attention that ?????????.COM is no longer available and therefor will not be able to complete the transaction as agreed. We have issued a refund for the purchase of this domain. Please let us know if you have any questions and we apologize for the inconvenience.
