Is it worth picking up a pre-release name that previously sold for $6000 back in 2009? Or is it's value all tapped out?

Cant tell without knowing the name

For instance, if its a brandable like Toggly.com, I would say ignore it
If its a name like AutoParts.com, they will always have value

You get the idea

If it's a domain bought by a domainer who does a lot of outreach and who is now selling it privately on NameJet, then he has likely contacted everybody who might buy. It's a squeezed lemon. You might even be bidding against some of those end users ... with a few of the domainer's buddies pumping up the price too.

If the domain has actually expired, then you're a little bit safer but not safe.

You'll have to use your own judgment. Like gilescoley says, it really depends on the domain and what it's worth in the long term.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and bid on it, and I was the only bidder. I'm not going to release the name of the website yet because I don't want the previous owner redeeming it in case he forgot all about it. After I safely have it in my account I will let you all know.
