Is it really possible, to find the contact details of the previous owners of domain names ?

There are a number of sites that archive domain whois records. DomainTools is one, but they typically only have data for the last few years. There is another service that I can't recall the name of, much higher pricing and many more years of data - more for corporations and copyright protection.

If there was an existing website on the domain...something like the "Way Back Machine" may give you some insight on the free tool side of things.
