.io domains have recently become so popular with businesses, individuals, domain investors and mainly entrepreneurs. Because, it has a geek feel to it, because I/O refers to input/output. This is a great choice for tech-centric sites and startups.

Another reason is because they perform well in Google's search results as they've been added to the geotargetable domains list.
It's not just the new tech start-up's but also Big companies like Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, eBay and Disney own .io domains.

Microsoft owns Doc.io. Google owns Coupons.io, Yahoo owns Player.io, eBay owns ql.io, and Disney owns go.io, amongst others.

Even the US government is happy to use .io domains.

Many of the start-up companies which use .io have venture capital funding, so they're likely to be the future large and influential companies on the web. As an example:
Wikipedia also notes: ".io domains are popular with new startup companies."

Recently a lot of .io domains have been sold at flippa as we all know: like, send.io for $5,000, pic.io for $3,500, viral.io for $1,950, fit.io for $1,950, 888.io for $3,888, Task.io for $5,550 which being the most recent one.
Private sales are also happening direct to companies. Like with App.io when they rebranded to a .io domain.

The term "PHOTOS" has 2.2 Billion search results in Google. And it has an exact phrase match of a whopping 450,000 searches a month globally.

'Photos' is the is the 803rd most popular topic on the internet by domain count.

It is short, easy to remember, extremely brandable and Descriptive. "Photos" is an awesome name for a new Photo Sharing/Photo Editing App.

Other possible ideas -
  • It can be used to create a photography community like 500px.com, (Alexa rank- 951) pixoto.com (Alexa rank - 17,179) for photographers to share their work and can also sell their best photos. The site can charge them a small fee and also can make revenue through ads and licences.
  • Type "photo" in google and the first result is "Photo.net" which is a photography community which has an alexa rank of 7,397! Type "photos" you get "photos.com" as the first search result which sells posters, photos, wall-art, frame-art etc.
  • So the SEO potential of this domain is HUGE!
  • You can also have many services and apps by using subdomains under one domain like -
  1. stock.photos.io - To run a stock photos business to sell royalty-free photos and vectors. (StockPhoto.com sold for $250,000 on flippa)
  2. edit.photos.io - A small app to edit and touch up photos. ("edit photos" has 110,000 exact searches globally. even sub domains are indexed in google because when I typed "share photo" in google I got a subdomain in the search result - share.pho.to)
  3. share.photos.io - To share photos online.
  4. funny.photos.io - Maybe a site like 9gag or Imgur which are HIGH TRAFFIC sites! ("funny photos" has 201,000 exact searches a month)
  5. store.photos.io - Cloud storage service for storing and sharing photos.
  6. Similary great subdomains would be - free.photos.io, live.photos.io, wildlife.photos.io, HD.photos.io etc
You get the idea.. The possibilities are unlimited.
  • Another Idea is you can build an app like Gyazo, a screen capture photo software.
  • A site like Photobucket/Flikr or album sharing/image organizing site like Picasa.
Photos is a very popular tech term we use on the internet. And the .io suits perfectly with it as it means Input/Output
