Hi everyone.

I just sold the domain acdata.com for it's asking price of Euro 5,000 (about $5,700) on Sedo, of which I'll get E4,500, about $5,375. I had set the price at that level ages ago without thinking too much about it although I had previous approaches for it over the last few years,

Basically, I've had it since 2001 and was aware that a company of that name wanted it but, they didn't seem too big or aware of the importance of a good domain name. They had made a few half-hearted offers of one or two grand but never really pursued. So, not wanting to be too mercenary, I set the price at E5000.

Then, yesterday, I got a non-binding offer of E4000, which I rejected. Now, I could have taken the opportunity to revise the mandatory price upwards, on the basis that if they wanted it I could probably squeeze a little more out of it but, again, that would be pretty crummy.

Today, Sedo tells me that my binding price was met.

So, my question is: have I sold acdata.com for too little?

Obviously, there's nothing I can do now but perhaps I need to go back and look at the pricing of the rest of my portfolio.

What do you think?

IMO, You got a fair/good price for the domain.

the price is reasonable.
you can always not sell it for $10,000. there are many domainers who do this. :hehe:

Doesn't seem like a bad price to me assuming it is just for the domain name and it doesn't come with incoming links, PR, high traffic and rev, etc.

I would say that is a nice price for it - if you have had it since 2001 and you pushed a little harder you may have ended up having it in 2011 ?? :td:

I would be happy with that sale :) Conrgrats & a wise move IMO

Agree. :gl:

Congratulations on your pending sale (ps. was it to the potential End user folks above, if you know)? :talk:

Thanks guys, a relief to know that I haven't been really dumb.

Just the domain, no real traffic, not many links, neglible click earnings, less than a $ per month click earnings.

I've managed to accumulate 600+ domains over the last 6 years but never had time to do anything with them or attempt to sell them. The one approach was for billsave.com which I let go for $1000 which, in retrospect, was definitely a mistake; that's why I was worried about this sale.

Jeff: yeah, I reckon it's those guys, best of luck to them because, if I owned a real, actual company, with real actual employees and products, I'd be pretty embarrassed to have a 12-letter domain name. Now I get a decent return on my investment, they get the perfect domain. And Sedo get E500 to buy another suit and a ticket to the bierfest.

Well said. LOL and agree. YEah If they had decided to hire a domain pro and Design-around the name you might have had a wait until the next ac data people came around.

good sale - be happy

I don't get it. You say that you don't want to be mercenary yet you keep thinking of upping the price?

Here's how I look at it. You paid didly for the domain and made a wild return on your investment. Why worry about if it was undervalued. In fact, IMO, I think it was way overpriced. Unless I am mistaken, acdata really is nothing but a company's name. Without that company would that domain have been worth anything? Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

$5K is a very fine price to get for that domain, IMO. Good job.

Hi.

I think you made a pretty good deal. :imho:

I had something similar with gtz.org. They are a German development agency and rejected my previous offer to sell to them. Then 1 year later they came back to me paying double the price of my first offer from the previous year.

I guess its always possible to squezze a little more but there is also a huge chance of squezzing to hard too.

So be happy with the profit! :$: :)

Cheers,

Its a good deal in my opinion.
Eur 5000,- is a very fair amount for that domain name.

I was wondering the same thing.

donnacha, what inspired you to originally register - "AC Data" ?

Great deal!
But I have 2 questions...
1.Like -db- above here asked you: what inspired you to originally register - "AC Data" ?
2.Did they sent payments already?

Sometimes you're getting nice offers in Sedo but the buyer disapeared...

Anyway good luck!

congrats on the sale

it was decent price ... i wouldn't get greedy as long as it is a fair offer which it is ...

congrats to ya.. its really a good sale!

Considering you only really had one end user, I think you got a good price. And I don't think that end user relies too much on their website looking at it.

So good deal, move on and enjoy the money!

First of all: congrats on your sale!
Even 4000 would have been a really good sale for this domain considering it only has one or maybe two potential buyers. Specially considering the fact that it has no significant traffic / links etc. So the answer is: no, you certainly did not get too little for this domain. It seems they are not a very small company, so they will not go bankrupt because of this purchase ;)

I'd appreciate you answering the 2 questions above.

Cheers!

I think you did very well. It took a little guts to turn down the $4K, but you played it very well. Congrats.

The name means nothing to me and I wouldn't even have regged it. So to find the enduser and make a sale like this is fantastic - well done.
