I have quite a bit of TV's to renew and I know a bunch of my friends here do too. Well, Goldrush Anniversary is exactly one month from now and we have a LOT of names to move.

Many Registrar Variables to consider here...

1) Security

2) Price

3) Customer Service

4) Control Panel ease (Transfers/Pushes, etc.)

5) Privacy - I guesss this could go under price since some places it is free and others charge.

6) Same Country as we live in???

Ok, here are some of the things I have thought long and hard about.

Please Help me think this through because I have changed my mind a dozen times already. OI am sure this thread will be VERY helpful to others here who are also starting to think this through since a LOT of domains here have exactly one month before Renewal (Mar. 18th)

I was very close to moving all of my domains to DomainMonster. They have the best renewal pricing by far. If you are transferring 25+ TV's then it comes out to $20.49 each!
BUT
I just heard talk that they have been down for quite a while so now I am going back to square 1.

GoDaddy - Great Control Panel and decent AfterMarket (TDNam) but you can enter any TV from any registrar there already (which is VERY smart) but high priced renewals.

Name - Great all around but high priced.

Dynadot - Great EZ Control Panel, GREAT MarketPlace, Awesome grace delete poliy.

Enom - Cheapest for Premium TV's but highest for renewal.

I was thinking about Moniker because of SnapNames eligibility, and it seems VERY safe but then I was just reading Microguy's thread on how they lock your names in, etc.

I have a few other thoughts but I really do not want to influence anyone here because I, myself have not come to my own conclusion as of yet.

If you have come to your own conclusion already, please share it and why...No answer is wrong.

Your thoughts...

Thanks,
Vito

No, I haven't Corey.

I have all of my TV's at the above Registrars plus a couple others...
Heart Internet, NameCheap, but I reallly dont know enough about them to really comment on them.

Can you tell me your thoughts on idotz.net and their TV pricing?

Thx,
V

This is a good time to consider shedding some dead weight. If a domain is just sitting there parked, this may be a good time to "pull the plug". (:talk:) IMO.

IdotZ is $29.99, quite high

Talking for transfers Name.com is $26.99, good price imo if u wanna renew and move there names from other registrars. Renewal is $35, too high, cheaper only from enom.com

Moniker has transfers/renewals $24.50 for single domains, the lowest after Domainmonster bulk, i think that has to be considered as sooner or later snapnames will allow listings of .tv but only from Moniker and fabulous.
Btw take a look at www.snapnames.tv and www.moniker.tv for the upcoming .tv auction (Verisign reserved like stocks.tv and air.tv)

Godaddy with gdbb776 has $24.99 renewal, but transfer is $26.99, both good prices

Dynadot, my fav, unfortunately have $31.99 for superbulk, higher for other pricing levels

Domainmonster for > 25 domains by far the cheaper, especially if u have valid EU vat or can take back the tax at your business

Still no decision from me, but for sure will transfer some to name.com and Moniker

cheers

Great Info Manos,
Thx.

Why not GoDaddy though...
That $24.99 pricing is great w/that code.
Are there some other negatives in your eyes about GD?

60 days transfer lock and no redemption period, i prefer other control panels as dynadot, name and Moniker as well, seems slow to me

Just imo of course

Hmmm, Ok so GD has a 60 day transfer lock.
I thought every Registrar had that same transfer lock???
Maybe others are 45 days I think.

I think their Control Panel is very easy but one more negative there is their Privacy. If you're new they charge like $8 or $9 per name. I have an executive account and still get charged $2 per name...

There is no 60 days transfer lock at the other registrars.
Only 60 days registrar lock at new registrations, not at transfers.

Talking for WHOIS Privacy:
Dynadot free for domain life for superbulk customers only
Name.com free for 1 year for all (freewhois coupon)
The other vary from $2 to $9, quite big cost if you have many domains

You can call and have the 60-day lock lifted.

You are a wealth of knowledge Doc.

You would think with as much time as we have both put into trying to figure this out...we would have picked a Registrar by now...lol

Thanx for your thoughts.

Anyone else...
Still a lot to think about here and Im gonna keep posting in this thread until I figure out 100% where is the overwhelming favorite!

I wrote a couple of emails to Name.com to have a cheap renewal but without any reply.
I'll move everything to Godaddy...

I'd like to keep my .tv at name.com, where I got them, but w/o a discount it's going to be difficult, even though I've renewed one for now.

Ray did say premium regs can't be transferred, something name.com is probably counting on, I'm going to try and transfer one of those to ResellerClub, will know soon enough.

If transfers are not possible guess you're stuck where you registered your premium regs.

Yes i like name.com also but $35 renewal is insane as there are $20- $25 in the market.
As far as i know premiums cannot change registrar, did not try though.
The most strange is that transfers to name are $26.99 and not $35 as renewals while i think Verisign has same pricing to registrars for transfers/renewals, so probably they count on unmovable of premiums

No but there are a couple of threads here at Namepros by folks who have.

Really?

Have you had this lock lifted before?

I've been monitoring this forum for almost 4 years and it still amazes me how the revenue pie on these investments breaks out. About 99% of all the money flowing (including aftermarket sales) is from domainers >> to >> registrars. Then the domains eventually drop and the process repeats only with new players and different domains.

I think GD has the most robust Cpanel and development support. Customer service is better now than I've ever seen (imo). And they do offer many coupons during the year you can take advantage of for discounted renewals. The one knock I have with godaddy is the site (slowdaddy) and how bogged down it seems and the ever changing face is annoying at times.

Funny how human drive and determination works. Just like the westward bound pioneers. Imagine their ignorant persistence .... what a bunch of fools. I mean they died by the thousands to get to that left coast. Something about gold revenue pie drove em there. :-/

Great analogy. :|

You can call Enom and negotiate price, especially on a bulk transfer and especially if you have any history with them. If you push hard, your Enom rep will sometimes go down to $20 per dot tv.

My anecdotal experience buying and selling dot tv's on namepros and elsewhere lets me guesstimate that the balance established in 2010 for avid and careful dot tv domainer has shifted to 45% of our TOTAL cash flow (both directions) going for renewals and dropping junk that looked good earlier, and 55% of of our total cash flow coming back to us in aftermarket sales. Many of us had to wait 10 years to see this happen, but it is here.

I would go with DomainMonster, they're the one I stick to for transfers

I ll go with godaddy.

Registar lock can be lifted if you contact your rep, and its good for your security also. Renewal price is not so bad, and customer support is great, especially if you are vip member, which is not so hard to achieve. About security, I was involved in some stolen .TV domains, and godaddy returned all stolen domains to its owners, so I would say its plus also. And there is free marketplace listings for all marketplace users.

@dr manos - you are right, premiums or domains bought from enom or their partners for one time premium fees after goldrush cant be transfered.
