The domain Online.casino has been sold by Donuts for a record breaking $510,000 (record for a new gTLD). According to Donuts, it was an end user that bought the domain and they are about to launch a website in 2019.

Wonder what it would have sold for if a domainer owned it instead of the registry? Higher or lower?

In the Translate sale thread many have mentioned that professional / business usage is done with a real service instead of Google Translate which is not human based hence the sales price.
Probably lower... What do you think?

I know there are translation services. But in todays world they are still competing with google imo. Google translate is free hence people who are online use it more often. For a regular translate agency the sale price of this domain would be unnecessarily high imo

good for you. its Google! hope you made a huge profit out of it.
care to share the domain name?

I already started thread regarding that. That was history. Don't want to repeat. :xf.smile:
I did not sell name to Google! I sold hand reg names in XXXX to another Translation related company. Google is also their client. IMO this thread is going out of topic as there is another thread regarding recent sale of Translate.com

Yes 'casino' single keyword domains all fetch decent money if you look at the history of sales.

It is actually interesting cause online betting is forbidden in some countries and some states in U.S if I am not mistaken.

But still its a huge industry. Like in crypto world "tron" is an average or below average crypto asset comparing to others yet it has more transaction volume than ethereum thanks to their online betting businesses developed on tron network. In the mean time ethereum have more than 11x market cap comparing to tron.

I think online betting is a huge business and crypto based online betting bussiness will be even bigger cause governments can't control or track crypto transactions hence it is "almost" impossible to regulate crypto betting online.

How much would you price this domain if you owned it?

An interesting question. I could see anywhere from $2000 to $200,000! The latter driven by considering what the switch of the word previously fetched, the former by a price range where many nice match sales in ngTLDs happen.

Overall, I could go along with those who say price paid was high, but I could also totally justify it on basis that to me online casino is slightly better than casino online.

Re @creataweb question, I think the registry would in this case get a higher price than a domainer. I think when talking 6 figure sales companies feel more trust dealing with registries.

Could be fake/insider sale, but at the same time believable. Question is, how to turn this news into our 4-5 figure sales. Registries reserve best ones for themselves so we can't hope to get 6 figures, but 5 figures may be possible.

I imagine they could have just bought OnlineCasino.com for that price

Or OnlineCasino in .net, .org, .co.uk, .de, .fr, .us and another hundreds of ccTLDs...
In my opinion, for future, it is easier and more convenient to own just Online.Casino, without any GEO suffix...specially when you are doing something like online casino, you do not want to limit yourself unnecessarily...

But what if you're starting an Online Casino :D

Then OnlineCasino.com or another premium domain in the .com extension.

Close try....but it does not make much sense imo, as there is 1 additional "s" in this domain name :)
No problem if you want to experiment with it though.
