I'm an EU citizen and I have one .us; I got it from 1&1 UK who during the registration process asked whether I was a US citizen or business, or a foreigner who plans to provide US content or service or something along those lines. Chose that option, domain went through okay. No problems, and it's not really a work-around since it's allowed.

failing that get a us resident to reg it for you then transfer/push.

Thank Sid for your reply but i don't think it's a good idea to be having my domains residing at 1&1. Since they are a domainers nightmare :'(

Hmm, what's to stop the person not to push the domain? A bit risky.

If your business has a "bona fide presence" or significant business connections in the U.S., you are allowed to register a .us domain, even if you're not a US resident/citizen. My business has an office in the US, which means I can reg .us domains without any workarounds.

If not, then conceivably someone can dispute your ownership and have the domain transferred to them if it turns out you do not fulfill the criteria. It's a good idea to make sure you're safe from this happening - before registering loads of .us domains.

Whois privacy is officially not allowed with .us domains, but it happens...
