New members biding in NamePros auctions

I am sure this topic has been discussed at NamePros before, but I couldn't really find anything with quick research so decided to open new thread here. Anyone finding, or knowing of such resource can you please include link bellow :)

So my point is; It would be beneficial to have new members, especially with accounts opened same day, or within last few days to be restricted from bidding at NamePros auctions. My biggest concern is, any member can pretty much choose to open new account, to use it for running up bids. And there are some cases of, auction winning party choosing to ignore seller altogether. Although those aren't just new members choosing to ignore the OP and forum rules.

I am not accusing anyone of implementing this method (running up bids) here on NamePros, as almost everybody here, I ever dealt with personally, been nothing but trustworthy and honourable! That is with couple exceptions unfortunately..

If I am being honest I have seen few suspicious cases in last few weeks, haven't alerted any mods, or filled complaint ticket, well simply because I don't have any proof!

Also worth mentioning, I am sure moderators do they best and close many of fraudster and double accounts, but surely having some basic restrictions for new members would make this process a bit more enjoyable and easier for all of us, right?

What are your thoughts guys?

I know that Paul, the tech guy here, finds and bans users who have 2 or more accounts.
Restricting the buyers means less members and bidders. Plus to this, in the last 6 months the number of new account grows a lot, and majority of new members are honest and good persons.

I know how you feel and have seen some questionable things myself. Lucky for me, I have always gotten great people to deal with. Some were new and others were established members.

I think it's just luck of the draw. There are going to be good and bad people in any marketplace.

I will suggest that if you find something that looks suspicious beyond a doubt, that you maybe send a message to a staff member and ask them to look into it or report the suspicious action/post and state why it looks wrong.

I do know that @Eric Lyon and the staff always try to keep anything that doesn't look right under some kind of scrutiny. I know and have seen the staff step in and investigate and check things out. I also know that it's hard to see everything with the amount of posts and members here. So, if you see something that doesn't look right then report it or ask a staff member to look at the situation.

I know what you mean, tottaly agree with that ;)

My suggestion would be; member have to be active for lets say 5 or 10 days! I think that's very fair indeed! Just about enough time for current ongoing auctions to finish (so realizing xxxxx domain is selling in 14 hours for $ x OP himself can't jump straight in to the thick of things within minutes with new profile) and more importantly new members will be able to take time and properly read true forum rules, before getting down to action!

Thanks @ulterios, that's a very good point ;)

As I just mentioned above 5 - 10 day restriction wouldn't be such a bad idea IMO. It wouldn't eliminate all existing problems as you mentioned there always will be different people and different situations. However this period would give new members some time to look around, and for those who really are here to stay, properly introduce themselves ;)
And I can say NamePros Moderators and all the staff really do work hard to make this forum such a pleasant experience, as it it is.

You are most welcome.

I do understand your point, I have been selling all kinds of things on countless different sites around the internet and sometimes it can be a bit of a pain and/or a bit shady. Sometimes dealing with selling online can be trying.

Since I tagged Eric in my previous message, I am sure he'll ring in when he gets a chance and express his thoughts on your suggestions. I don't know what can be done myself that will work best for all, but am sure he'll be able to explain things and give some good input.

If this was a rule, those who shill would simply create a second account even sooner. :P

More effort and things to remember on potential fraudster behalf :D More of a chance to draw similarities with potentially already existing (other this same person's account), if they choose to take part in any discussions at all, that is!

I know what you mean my suggestion isn't going to solve the situation fully, or put the lid on top of it all. Then again, more serious restrictions definitely wouldn't be fair on trustworthy and fair new members ;)

If there was a solution to the problem than the industry would not be riddled with shill bidding.

I guess my point is there will always be a way to beat the system so bid intelligently.
