to create better blog titles
Yes, never underestimate the power of good blog titles to drive traffic to your site. If you want some more in-depth about this, feel free to PM me and I'll walk you through it. But here's a short primer:
1 - Decide what you want your article to be about.
2 - Go to the google keyword tool. Here's the link, hopefully it's okay to post this link in thread:
https://adwords.google.com/o/Targeting/Explorer?__u=1000000000&__c=1000000000&ideaRequestType=KEYWORD_IDEAS#search.none
3 - On that keyword tool page, down the left hand side you'll see 'match types'; deselect 'broad' and select 'exact'.
4 - Now look at your article again; decide on the main keyword or keyphrase that describes the topic of your article, and type those words/phrases into the keyword tool, one keyword or phrase (with proper spaces between words) per line.
5 - Perform the search. What you'll see is the number of monthly searches that word or phrase gets from google surfers. This shows you that it's a searched term, rather than some random phrase that no one searches for. Try to find a phrase that closely matches the topic of your article, a phrase that has many hundred or even a few thousand monthly searches.
6 - When you find that good keyphrase, use it as the title of your blog article. Use the exact phrase, don't go changing it around. Adding NJ or something on the end is usually ok but it's better to get the exact phrase with no add-on words before or after. If you can find search terms that have to do with your exercise articles AND include NJ or New Jersey in the search, even better.
7 - Not only as the title of your blog, you also want to use that exact phrase 2 - 5 times within your text content in that article, depending on the article's length.
8 - Also, include that exact term in the blog's metadata when you fill out the keywords for that page, and name the blog page the exact same phrase as you're naming the blog article.
The above steps give you a blog article page that has a title the search engines can see easily and which is a term that people actually search for. If your article's search term doesn't have too much competition from other sites using the same phrase, then you have a good chance of your article being put on page 1 of search engines for that phrase.
If your phrase/title for that article has a lot of competition, like tens or hundreds of thousands of searches, then you'll have almost no chance of getting your article high up on the search engines and you'll receive very little search traffic. Ideally you want a phrase that gets 300 - 5000 monthly searches, that is healthy searches but not too heavy in competition from others.
This way, if you have a blog with say 20 articles, and all articles follow the criteria I listed above... maybe half or more of these will eventually wind up on google page 1 for that search term. If each of those phrases gets 1000 monthly searches, you then have a chance of all those searches visiting your blog post, on your website, first when they type in the term.
The mistake many people make is in trying to get traffic to their 'website'; instead, think of trying to get visitors to EACH INDIVIDUAL PAGE. You do this by using cleverly-crafted individual blog pages. When you find a searched-term, without too much competition, and you name your blog article and blog page exactly the same as that term, and use that exact term a few times within your article, as well as using it as one of the keywords in your metadata, this is the groundwork SEO (Search Engine Optimization) that gets visitors to your page... and then they check out the rest of your site, if they like that page.
This optimization can get your blog article to first page, even first spot, on search engines if there isn't too much competition. Patience; can take anywhere from a few days, weeks, or months to get it there. Or never... but do a bunch of pages and many of them will bring you traffic if done properly
Hope this isn't confusing; there's more details to watch out for and help, PM if you want more info
