Grease Job

Same stuff, regurgitated for the umpteenth time. Same characters getting the usual grease job at what's become the domainers' puff-piece weekly. But then again, Dnjournal's owner has a large portfolio, and the published truth about some of the shady characters in the domain business might hurt the value of that portfolio.

For example, Dnjournal mentions the ownership evolution of DNF, without mentioning the ethically-challenged ownership preying on clueless dupes at TDNAM auction(s). Thanks for looking out for the "newbies" Ron. What? The shady characters won't allow you to have your own thread at their respective forums if you call them on their crap?

The domain "media" referred to is little more than a save-my-ass hype machine, something along the lines of, "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine."

Need another tissue Ron?

Just finished typing a nice reply of about 3 paragraphs and mistakenly clicked on the next post link underneath the quick reply button... grrr.

Anyhow, what I was saying was that - in fairness to RJ and DNJ - the domain industry has gelled and matured significantly in the last 10 years. We are no longer simply 1,000,000 small players ... that consolidation, be it through JV, M&A of domain industry kingpins (registrars, aftermarketplaces, communities) and the emergence of new technology (social media, etc.) has no doubt had a significant impact on our industry. The reporting has to reflect these paradigm shifts.

That said, it's also no longer DNJ that is the sole source of domaining news - certainly not any sort of time sensitive news. I go to DNJ for a recap of older news from the previous week or so. It's more of a source of strategic insight rather than tactical information.

For that we all have tools to do real-time scanning from sources (no, not Google) but Twitter searches, TLD files matched to data mining algos and the drop process, etc....

It doesn't detract from the value of DNJ, just puts it in a different niche as far as news media goes.

Just my $0.02

Rob
