A friend who is not in the domain business is offering to sell me a 3-character dot com domain name and I'm not sure how to value it as I have not been in that market yet. One of the letters is a "J" and the others are "good" letters. What would be the wholesale/retail value of this name be? It has a good sound to it. Has minor traffic.

I haven't been tracking LLL.com's extremely closely, but I know they are not going cheap. I believe that the prices listed are on the rock bottom end.

According to what you said, any price under US$ 3000 is a steal, IMO.

That sounds about right from what I've seen. 3 letter .com's all have a high inherent value just for their length before anything else is even considered about the letters, etc.

All snapnames auctions I have seen have been from about $3,400 and up on LLL.com's. Of course, I haven't been a particpant in all of the LLL.com auctions, so some may have gone lower.

If good and brandable ones, you will even see $xx,xxx offers. There were quite a few surprising LLL .com sales.
