I don't usually try to catch dropping domains and I don't really want to pay extra for a drop-catching service. I just want to try to register the domain after it becomes available again (which should be soon). It will just be a site for a personal development project and there's probably not too much value in the domain. Anyways, if anybody would know, I thought the good people at NP could help me try to figure out when the domain should become available for me to try to register.

Let me give some info..
The name was registered at domain.com
The expiration date of the name was April 11, 2016
The name is a .com

Any idea when the domain should become become available to register? I thought maybe by now it should already be available. But I checked 5 minutes ago.. and it's still not available yet.
It still says on the WHOIS: Status: redemptionPeriod https://icann.org/epp#redemptionPeriod
Though I thought that the maximum redemption period is only 45 days?

Thanks for any help with understanding it better!

After the 'Redemption Period' a deleting domain enters a 'Pending Delete' period for 5 days and then becomes available to register.

i believe a domain name becomes available after 75 days. If this true, then it should be available starting Saturday. There was an article I read recently, which explained the whole process. I will post a link if I can find it.
Edit: Here it is

The exact day of drop is never known beforehand. The drop lists are being formed on 4-5 days ahead. Then you can monitor them. Manually on expire.biz, or searching on expireddomains.net, or even setting yourself an alert at pool.com.

I would recommend using a Backorder specialist like Snapnames.com to almost guarantee getting this domain for you. Hand registering domain names is tricky business.

If you still choose to do so, you need to count 35 days (30 days RGP + 5 days Pending Delete) from the Last Updated Date as per Internic Whois output. Use this TimeandDate Tool to precisely calculate this.

Just an update to my own question.

I ended up hang-regging the domain I wanted. :) Which is great because I saved money on the back order and now I got to develop it.

Basically, I just kept checking the WHOIS on the domain every 8 - 12 hours or so for the last five days until it became available. It works with this domain. Maybe other more valuable domains hand-regging wouldn't work. But it worked this time. :D
