Names registered at GoDaddy not showing in my portfolio

I registered three new domain .com names this morning three hours ago at Godaddy, and they are still not showing up in my portfolio. I've not seen this happen before. They simply are not showing up. I know I bought them, as I have the order receipt to prove it.

Has anyone else ever had this problem before?

Hi @markfromslo,
Please feel free to DM us the domain names, and we'll check in with the team to see why these wouldn't be showing for you.

They showed up four hours later in my portfolio. I've noticed at times it might take 10-15 minutes for a name to show up, but never this long.

This is getting worse. Today, I've been waiting six hours for a half dozen names I registered this morning to show up in my portfolio. SIX HOURS!

Now 9 hours and still missing.

14 hours and still not there.

When I try to register these names now--expecting it would say they are taken--it shows them as available.

I have the Godaddy order email, I absolutely bought them already.

If it shows them available, then they are still available. You have bought them at Godaddy, but they are still not registered and anyone could register them at this moment, at any registrar.

Yes, you absolutely bought them, but they are still unregistered at any registrar, meaning that anyone can register them right now, leaving you with nothing.

24 hours and names not in my portfolio yet.
They are not just in your portfolio, but still unregistered.

But check the Whois database to be sure if they are still unregistered or not.
---------------------------------

When I have hand registered any domain in the past, and the registrar took more than 5 minutes to register it, be sure I finally registered it with another registrar.

There's no way I would lose a domain just because the incompetence of a registrar by not registering the domain I paid for right away.

So I got on Godaddy chat (always a pain, but not so bad today). Bascially, they are telling me that it's a payment gateway issue on their end and that within 24 hours I will get a email confirmation that the names are in my account. And I need not worry, they say. Meanwhile, someone else can also register the names--I tried and they shows as available.

"NO need to worry about it as payment is done from your end so it will be in freeze under your account and once verfication is done so domain wil be moved to yoru account without any issue so no need to worry about it."

And I just registered two more names this morning, and they are also not in my portfolio.

I just rebought the now eight names at Namecheap. Godaddy is going to have to refund the purchases. Waste of time. I'll have to wait until a weekday and contact my Godaddy Premiere rep to get the refund.

Pain in the butt, since I have 6,000 names at Godaddy and am trying to consolidate names there, not add names to other registrars. (Why Godaddy? I'm not moving 6,000 names to another registrar).

The Godaddy chat rep said "no worries, the names are LOCKED." Yeah, right. I see them in my Namecheap portfolio right now. Not locked. Godaddy chat support is the absolute worst.

If there's a payment gateway issue, they still haven't registered the domain.
So, besides the fact that right now anyone can register the domains you paid for, you need not to worry :banghead:

You did it right. You could have lost the domains just for the incompetence of Godaddy. 24 hours to register a domain that's just another level of incompetence.

The godaddy chat rep saying "no worries, the names are LOCKED" is just at the same level of incompetence as their registrar.

The domains were still unregistered, but "locked" in the godaddy chat rep mind. :xf.laugh:

I would do it anyway, and take the time for it. That's exactly what I did when moving my large portfolio from GoDaddy to Porkbun (which was much larger than it is now). It took about 1.5 years for the entire process to be completed. I never regretted it.

Regarding your latest experience, it sounds like Amateur Hour during registration and support again.

I want to be at an Afternic partner for Fast Transfer reasons. I know registrars like Namecheap are partners, but partnerships do sometimes break up and I'd hate to have that happen after moving all the names to it.

At Porkbun, my domains are both using Afternic FT and Sedo FT. Some other registrars offer it too.

But if you're happy with GD, don't change.

I have resolution. My Godaddy Premiere rep is back in the office today and he looked at the problem. He discovered the problem right away. It is because I set my domain name defaults in Godaddy Settings to ns1.afternic.com, ns2.afternic.com, and then also my Afternic Ownership Verification string, "verification-[snipped].verify.hn".

This is a bit nuts because on the one hand, Godaddy's Afternic tells me to put that in an NS slot in order to verify ownership, while on the other hand Godaddy doesn't like it. They should at least give people an error message in the Domain Defaults entry if someone keys in an entry that they know will stop registration in its tracks.

Thank god I have a Premiere rep at Godaddy, because Godaddy Chat and @godaddyhelp on X did not tell me the proper answer.

@markfromslo So that's why they decided not to register the domain names for you? I find their statement to be highly implausible. Also: at what moment did they proactively inform you about the situation?

Nothing proactive, this was after I wrote my rep.

I did receive automated emails this morning saying that the names could not be registered, which would be because I went to namecheap and registered them there after 24 hours of waiting for Godaddy. This was the email message:

This is the error message we got from the registry: Domain failed availability check: Domain cannot be registered because another domain was found in a restricted status

We'll look into why this happened and try to fix it. But if we're still unable to register the domain, we'll go ahead and give you a refund (allow one business day for processing).

If I had not registered them at elsewhere, I wonder what kind of email would have eventually come to me.

Certainly, an email saying there was a invalid nameserver would have been proper to receive. Then I could have fixed it. But that should have come immediately. Better yet, there should have been a warning to remove the NS when I registered the name. But that would require a Godaddy dev to actually do something useful in the first place.

Hi @GoDaddy , I could not get in contact so I'm going to post here. I am having issue with two domains that I recently purchased. They appeared in my account and I was able to switch the NS manually. Currently it's gone from my account as if I did not purchase it at all. No message/email or anything. Please help. Or is there a way to request for refund if you are not going to honor the purchase?
