Namejet - Pre-Release Auction - PR4 to N/A

Hey everyone,

I want to bring up a really weird situation I'm encountering. I've just been getting into domain auctions and i've bought two from Godaddy with no issues but this was my first time winning an auction from Namejet.

Anyway, the domain was a PR4 and I entered the auction with 18 others (Pre-Release) auction. I won it. I checked the backlink profile of this domain several times including the day of the auction and all of the links are authentic, the PR is valid and I definitely don't see any problems.

I just took possession over this domain yesterday. I checked the pagerank of it and it's gone from 4 to N/A which is basically null. I checked several tools including the same ones I originally checked the domain with and all of them are showing 0 backlinks.

Luckily, I saved my old backlink queries to see if maybe this was scam...maybe the backlinks were all taken down perhaps after the auction? No idea...I checked all of the backlinks and they're all up and valid, still pointing to my domain so the backlinks are actually there, including all of the high pageranked backlinks which gave this domain a 4 to begin with.

So my question is, why are they not being detected and why did it changed from a 4 to N/A the same day I took possession of this domain? Is there something I did wrong? Did I get scammed in some way? Will the PR4 come back if I build a website on the domain?

Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

In case your wondering what the domain is..it's safitness.org

Thank You!

My advice: stay away from paying big money for lousy domain names that are not built on a thriving business, no matter PR rank. I don't see much value in safitness, at least in .org. In .com, you could brand it as a geo fitness center (San Antonio?), but in .org, it's a stretch. JMO.

Concentrate your efforts (and money) on solid (and intuitive) names with good Google analytics, NOT PR, which can be faked in a number of ways (Black hat SEO and redirects, for example).

One CAN build a good business on a so-so domain name, but it takes a lot of work, and forget about direct type-ins.

Also, take anything that Namejet says with a grain of salt.

Hey,

Thanks for the advice, i'll definitely take it with me for future browsing.

I have a few very good reasons why this domain would fit perfectly for my business and it's pr would have been a huge help with rankings.

Even though we discussed the future, what can I presently do in my situation considering that I paid for this domain, therefore i'm stuck with it. Can I recover the PR4 of this domain somehow?

Thanks

It's perfect fit for your business but you're "Stuck With It".

It's got to be one or the other, I'm afraid.

If you decide it's perfect you can get your PR4 back with content and real traffic. The old traffic is irrelevant anyway if you're going to use it for your business.

I was under the impression you were going to flip the domain.

If you plan to develop it, then it may be a different story, but I still think it will be more difficult without serious seo work. I could be wrong, of course, which is why you might want to run this by the development experts, which I am not.

I would not like to see you build a website on sand and later regret it. I think we have all spent serious money on domains that later proved to be bad choices. Again, I don't know if this would be the case, but it never hurts to make sure.

Best to you!

Pr can usually be salvaged if the domain is redeveloped soon enough.
Now PR isn't everything. I would not buy a domain based on PR alone.

That's happened to me but it's generally come back pretty quickly after banging up a site.

I guess from the moment a domain expires and is in Pending Delete, its PR will be volatile as the content's changed
