I know of one registrar that has a reverse service. Their security system is so powerful that anyone can steal your name except you.

I don't think the idea is useless. I wonder what the implementation is like.

Part of the reason I use Porkbun is because of the setting they have where you can add an extra password to protect EPP code generation.

WARNING: The recovery process for this password requires waiting 48 hours for the password to expire. The account's email address will also be contacted. If you forget it, recovery could be a lengthy process.

Please provide a password to use for protecting this domain. You will be required to enter this password when managing certain aspects of this domain. Although we will be adding more, currently the following functionality will be protected:
  • retrieving authorization code

For me the ideal implementation would be something that requires FIDO / WebAuthN (re)authentication for sensitive operations (or all operations). For example, plug in and touch your security key every time you want to generate an EPP code or change nameservers.

I'd much rather pay a recovery fee if I lose my key than a monthly fee though.

Do you have any specific complaints besides the UI and pricing? I ask because I’ve been planning to transfer my .ca domains to them. None of the inexpensive .ca registrars support U2F, so I’m willing to pay a bit of a premium for that at Namecheap.

I wish it was specific and minor.. but it's just a general failure. but the bottom line is none should ever pick a place where better ones exist. nc simply isn't the best. and nobody cares for 2nds..3rds..etc
