Bank of America has this on their site:

"A New Way to Bank

Mobile Banking is now available to Online Banking customers at www.bofa.mobi from your cell or smart phone browser"

edit:

And it doesn't matter that it forwards to: https://www.bankofamerica.com/mobile/ because they advertise the mobi (which is also easier to type)

I was excited too until I read the article. No mention of dotmobi at all. No link either to .mobi. There is ZERO public awareness made out of that article.

Yes but it's hidden on a subpage so unless you look for it...you won't see it.

Stil it's not terrible news just not as exciting as if the NYT mentioned mobi itself in the article.

Agreed. I think it's a first for a major newspaper to report on mobile banking. It seems somewhat ODD that they wouldn't mention the .mobi in the article. Wouldn't people want to know where they could get such a great service?

Don't worry a real journalist will pick it up in the right way...

i use bank of america as my main bank and when you click on their homepage to do mobile banking then it mentions the mobi site right there. all of their millions of customers who sign up for mobile banking with them will be using the mobi site. its definitely good news, especially for it to be used by such a powerful company this early into mobi existence. you dont see bank of america telling people to go to bankofamerica.ws or .biz or .tv or anything like that. .mobi definitely has a purpose that separates it from just being any other random domain extension. mobi still has a long way to go but this helps to push it along.

bofa imho is very good news for mobi overall...bank of america is huge...however the times article doesn't really highlight it in the article so those who don't online bank with boa aren't made aware of mobi. If bofa.mobi would have been in the print I think that would have been a solid boost for mobi.

Agreed. I'm somewhat disappointed it wasn't... Nevertheless, it's nice to see them write an article on mobile banking, and hopefully some curious people (like myself) will check out the site, regardless of if they're customers or not.

For example, checking my balances, making a transfer and confirming a few payments totaled 244 kilobytes, plus one text message, on Citi Mobile. Total charges from AT&T: $2.59. So, if someone used mobile banking as freely as dropping by the local A.T.M., it could get costly.
i found this quote to be really interesting, it shows the real strength of mobi inso far as it highlights the cost of doing things by phone, mobi sites will be by far the least expensive to use in terms of bandwidth so i see this as a real positive

there are beginning to be enough banks going to mobi so that the others will have to follow to feel competitive

yeah, agreed. for some reason (i know journalists are a joke these days) but .mobi never seems to actually get mentioned. hopefully will pick up soon

I've mentioned this in another thread but i'll post for those who didnt know (or might like to know) is that in Australia, all the major banks have their .mobi

ANZ is the only one forwarding .mobi to their PCwebsite-not promoting mobile banking
The others are NAB.mobi-National Australia Bank, COMMBANK.mobi commonwealth Bank, BOQ.mobi-Bank of Queensland.mobi, Westpac.mobi. I am quite sure that banks would love to have their mobile version up on mobile phone screens in due time!

I'm glad to hear that Australian banks are using .mobi but with the population of Australia at around 20 million, I wouldn't be surprised if B of A has about that many customers considering they have about 200,000 employees.
