Honneslty I don't see why mixed reality gaming would be better than VR gaming. Yeah, shooting bad guys in your apartment is pretty cool, but to me that would get old really quick. It's the same environment all the time - my apartment. And it is also limited by the surroundings. I can see some great uses for mixed reality gaming, like board games and stuff like that, or work outs.

But VR offers total immersion. It makes me feel like I have been transported to another world entirely. Surely that is superior for gaming purposes.

Surely you can see the obvious limitations of full immersion VR gaming as well.
You don't think gaming within the real world would be absolutely ridiculous? The idea that MR will be restricted to indoor gaming makes zero sense.

I'm not saying it will be restricted to indoors. But I also don't see people running around the town shooting mixed reality bad guys en masse. It's just not very practical. People died playing Pokemin Go, and that game wasn't even obstructing their field of vision like a pair of smart glasses would. The real world has cars, people, animals and stuff you need to pay attention to.

In alot of places it's not even safe to be outside after dark, and where I live we have snow, rain and freezing cold alot of the time.

Also these types of games make you look like an idiot when you do them. There is a social stigma around behaving like that in public.

Ofcourse there will be some games that are well suited for mixed reality. I wouldn't mind playing something like Candy Crush, chess, or Risk in MR while on the train. .

But VR has so many more gaming possibilities. I just see it as a much better gaming platform.

Mixed Reality is much better suited for learning about your environment, looking at maps, reviews, special offers and such.

We shall see. Seems obvious gaming will go outdoors in a big way if it can, safety be damned.
And I personally think social norms will change pretty dramatically over the next decade+. The generation of teenagers right now, and then my kids generation after that, they really aren't going to care nearly as much how they look out in public as you and I.
Don't forget, the first people to adopt bluetooth earbuds looked completely insane walking around talking to themselves.

Definitely looks better then the older design. My only concern is how good the mixed reality will be. Reviews are calling it more like a VR experience and little mixed reality. I hope they will not shoot in their foot to rush to much... it will be better to wait a little longer to offer a device truly capable of mixed reality and "wow factor".

They use the spectrum terminology.

Personally i would like to see Microsoft using the mixed reality term to describe strictly holographics. But indeed after reading their website it will be the complete spectrum from AR to VR. This will give more strength to AR and less to MR in my opinium. I don't like all-in-on terms.

But the spectrum (MR) could also mean a combination of AR en VR elements (interactive / smart AR). It's getting a little confusing and they promised a basic MR device at the end of this year but it's not what i hoped it to be... a long way before Hololens will see the market...

They use MR as a spectrum because they aim for all in one devices later on.

Assuming 'Mixed Reality' is going to become a thing, I'm hoping it will work in a similar way to something like 'VirtualCasino'. I get put off by the longtail; MixedRealityKeyword, so i find MixedKeyword a better fit. We'll see :)

@420domainer and I bought MixedRealityGlasses for a lot of money and @subjot got his MixedGlasses as a drop as well ...

i personally own more then 30 MixedReality names and more then a 100 MR names with no Mixed names

its interesting ..

i prefer MixedReality and MR , some prefer Mixed ..

crossing fingers for us all.

As a relatively new technology, I imagine you'll initially do better with the longtail. As the tech matures, the term 'Mixed' might become synonymous with 'mixed reality', hence my investmest with this term. But yes, got to hold on in there...

This is the second domain in short term i am not be able to handreg right from the drop. MR domains are definitely getting more attention / traction. Catching a domain has a price of $50. I have my eyes on yet another dropping domain... will let know how things go.

https://tweakers.net/nieuws/128855/windows-mixed-reality-pcs-komen-in-60fps-en-90fps-varianten.html

Windows Mixed Reality PCs come in 60fps and 90fps variants

Translated with google:

Microsoft distributes PCs for Windows Mixed Reality headsets in versions with integrated gpu for 60fps playback and 'Ultra PCs' with discrete video card for 90fps. Microsoft and Valve work together to bring Steam to Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

Consumers who want to purchase a PC for use with a Windows Mixed Reality headset will get a choice of two versions later this year. The less powerful variant designates Microsoft as a Windows Mixed Reality PC; Below are desktops and laptops with integrated video chip. In combination with this the frame rate is 60fps. Prices for these systems start at $ 499.

The more powerful PCs are called Windows Mixed Reality Ultra PCs. These laptops and desktops feature loose video cards that provide 90 frames per second to the user of a headset. Further specifications do not make Microsoft known about the PCs.

It is clear, however, that users gain access to SteamVR for free software such as games. The Valve platform already supports competitive headsets such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Valves OSVR based. Microsoft also announced that it collaborates with 343 Industries to bring a Halo program to the headsets.

The Windows Mixed Reality headsets must be distinguished by their relatively low price and the fact that sensors for determining the position of the user and controllers are integrated into the glasses. The lowest price for a headset with controllers is $ 399, promises Microsoft. Dell announced that its Dell Visor will be available for $ 350 in the US, or $ 450 including controllers in the US.
