I wonder about these sales stats in general, because of the lack of charm pricing I'm assuming they're mostly taken from auctions, which are all public, but this $99,999 seems to be a charm price and the fact it comes from a seller's whitelabel Atom marketplace makes it even weirder because the sales for those aren't public as far as I'm aware. In that case did the owner of the marketplace self-report it to NameBio and they just took his word for it? All similar domains on there seem to be priced much lower:

I just did a deeper dive with the Wayback Machine and sure enough, this was the price that he had it listed it for at the beginning of the year:

Considering how high it is compared to his similar domains he must have really known something we don't... Will be very interesting to see who the new buyer is and what they do with it.

Only 8 days before, apparently. The whois gives the creation date as 20 Oct 2021. The parent company of Facebook rebranded to Meta Platforms on 28 Oct 2021.

metareels.net, metareels.org and metareels.ai have the same creation date, suggesting that an investor got wind of the rebrand and started grabbing names on the assumption that Facebook Reels would get rebranded, too.

It looks like Meta have already bought metareels.ai from this investor. The records were updated on 27 July 2025 and the owner is now Meta Platforms Inc. They probably bought the .org, too, which now has facebook.com nameservers.

Interesting the domainer chose to represent himself. As someone who'd likely end up doing the same if I ever got in that situation, I'd be really interested in seeing an analysis of self-represented UDRP cases and how many were successful vs those represented by lawyers.

There is something about the suffix Reels that might not know. Majority of the valuable names ending with reels have been taken prior to sale. Marketreels, BetReels, CasinoReels, HealthReels etc
