Lander Only (hack)
The following companies have 5% commissions or less for marketplace landers. In theory, one could adjust the sale price to allow a buyer to pay the agreed upon price. However, landers are public and if someone stumbles upon the lander before the buyer they could purchase it. Up to you to decide the risk(s).
Atom Wholesale Marketplace: 5% commission, no min fee (single name). 7.5% commission (portfolio sales). Buyers must have a min of 10 approved & live premium listings in the Atom Premium domain marketplace to access. (Commission & FAQs) (pointing NS isn't required).
DomainEasy: 9% commission + 3.5% for cc transactions or $50 for wire. Commissions are currently waived making DE a worthy hack option until commission reinstatement. (pointing NS isn't required, thus there is no "public" risk)
Sav: 4% commission (name must be registered at Sav)
Spaceship: 5% commission (name may be registered anywhere, NS must point to Spaceship to use Spaceship landers, but if not, name still shows in exact match search).

Payment Systems
Paypal:
2.99%-3.49% + 1.5% if International transaction + $.30-$.49 fee (fees) LTO supported via "subscriptions" (instructions) *Some NP domainers avoid Paypal when collecting larger amounts due to friendly buyer policies and/or scams. DYOR if you intend to use Paypal. (Paypal scam example)
Wise: 1%-4.2% +$.30 (fees) (instructions) *Card payments are capped at 10,000 GBP and payouts take up to 14 days. Wise policies may be friendly to buyers (similar to Paypal). DYOR research before using this method.

Need a lander? See the Mega List of Landers avail to you!

If you know of another provider, please let me know in the comments and I'll add them to the list.

DISCLAIMER: DYOR research on the commissions and policies above. They are subject to change at any time and I do not claim to be above making mistakes. This is a guide and is intended for you to do your OWN research before proceeding with any provider.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
None of this stuff has anything to do with selling or transferring legacy domains.

It's basically just adding an extra unnecessary and confusing layer.

As someone who has sold thousands of domains to end users, I could not imagine trying to explain this stuff to a potential buyer.

Brad

I see. Hopefully they update their FAQs pages then. It doesn't specifically differentiate between legacy domains and Web3 domains and just talks about what is required to list on their marketplace.

In my experience, the less friction you add to a transaction the better it usually goes.

When you start using lesser known companies or registrars, or processes outside the norm, that can certainly add friction.

On a side note, it might be good to list what options require the domain to be registered there.

For instance some of these like Afternic (GoDaddy) and Dynadot are registrars, where others are marketplaces or escrow services.

It would be good to know which options might require a domain to be at a certain registrar.

Brad

Good catch. I had that info listed for Sav & Spaceship, but missed adding that info for Dyna & Daaz. I added for Dyna - still identifying what is necessary for Daaz.

I used Daaz one time, at the seller's request.

This is what they told me, so I assume it works with any registrar.

I transferred out.

We are in the process of collecting the domain from the seller, this domain name has been registered with the Spaceship.com registrar.

You have two options to take the control of the domain name.

Option 1: Domain Push: Domain ownership change completed within 12 hours time

  • To use this option, We need your Spaceship.com Username. If you are new to Spaceship, please sign-up with Spaceship.com and kindly share the Username
Option 2: Domain Transfer: Domain transfer will be completed within 48 hours time from the time of the transfer initiation.

  • If you want to transfer out the domain name to the registrar of your choice, then we will unlock the domain and provide the domain authentication / secret code.
You can track domain transfer status updates directly from the transfer center.

I am no expert but thought I would try to respond to a few things re Unstoppable.
I have no idea what an EVM self-custody wallet is (nor do imagine most buyers do). And I do not have a "wallet".
They automatically create a unique wallet address for you when you create an account, and that is automatically added to your domains in seconds when you register or transfer a domain name, yes including DNS ones like .com, .net or new gTLDs. There is no action needed on the user part, and you do not need to have used crypto or have an existing wallet somewhere lese.

Buying a domain is already a unique experience for most buyers so adding in stuff like Web3, wallets, and blockchain just makes it more confusing.
While it is possible I am wrong, I think that the buyer does not need to know any of the stuff posted (perhaps from their days when they were Web3 blockchain domains only). They state:
How can I pay for a domain listed on the marketplace?
You can pay with Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or Crypto. Transactions over $20k must be paid in crypto.
You can readily use credit cards and PayPal. That is the only form of payment I have used for their services, and above says the same can be used for marketplace purchases.

Re payout, after 10 days the proceeds (sales price less 3% commission) goes into what is called Sales Balance in your account. If you want to use the funds for future registrations or renewals/transfers, I can't see that there is any additional charge. If you ware a US resident with. a US bank account and paid by bank transfer, it looks like not a charge to withdraw funds. They have KYC requirements. For non US will need a W8 form and use Swift etc. transfer. There is also a manual option for payout – I suspect the additional fees are for those, but don't know the details.

I have only listed for sale a few of the names that I have at Unstoppable. I am not currently using their landers.

It is easy to list names for sale that you have registered there. They seem to indicate you can list names registered elsewhere, but they have to be linked to your custodial wallet, and I have no idea how that is done, and suspect most would just consider it as a way to close sales for names that are at Unstoppable.

You make it sound simple. They should hire you to re-write their help and FAQ pages, because on those they speak about Polygon, EVM Wallets, minting, and other things that make non-crypto folks eyes glaze over. Until/unless all those pages are updated with easy to access terminology, they will have a tough time getting buyers (and sellers) to understand and trust their platform they way you do.

If their target market is Web3/Crypto - they've potentially written everything perfectly. But if their intent is to expand outside that market - then they need to reword their website to make it more accessible to all.

DomainAgents.com has a couple of options:

Landers - 0% seller fee, buyer pays our commission (7.5-10%) and the Escrow.com fee. If you direct your traffic to the lander, you also get 25% of the commission we earn on the sale as a bonus.

DA Assist - A new service where we will shepherd the buyer and seller through the Escrow.com process for $79 flat rate. We had a number of people requesting if we could just provide extra support for the escrow and transfer process. Saves you a lot of time and headaches if you already have a deal in place.

Thanks for letting me know about the DA Assist program. Perhaps it'll assist certain sellers/buyers - so I added it to the list.

Your landers are in the Mega List of Landers list: https://www.namepros.com/threads/mega-list-of-landers.1337766/

Note LTO is currently non-operational for Afternic checkout links. I'm unclear how long it has been unavailable - and when they anticipate it going live again.

Thanks for creating the list, and for featuring Afternic's Custom Checkout Link!

Lease to Own was disabled while we transitioned this service from Dan.com URLs to GoDaddy.com URLs. We'll be reintroducing Lease to Own on Custom Checkout Link again very soon.

Thanks for the list format – very helpful @mwzd.

In some ways, I personally think PayPal and Wise should be in a different category from others, since they are payment systems but do not involve a third party handling the domain transfer.

Thanks for the suggestion Bob. Updated.

Also modified Atom, who raised the cap for Trusted Sellers to $50k based on my suggestion.

You can see Atom's response here

Escrow.com0.7% - 2.6% (Wire), 5.65% (CC), +$100 or 0.01% for LTO

Might be worth noting (in red!) that Escrow.com’s $100 fee for lease-to-own is monthly, not a one-time charge.

That’s a steep cost for lower- to mid-tier transactions and really shifts the equation when evaluating the total cost versus the actual purchase terms.

For example, a $3,000 domain with $100 monthly over 24 months totals $5,400 — a whopping 80% increase over the original price!

Escrow.com really needs to take a hard look and reevaluate this pricing structure.
