The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
You cant say without knowing the keyword, some work better with Media and others with News

Worth noting that media is much more global. There is for example this site by a very big Finnish company: https://op.media

media is more generic and more language-neutral than news for sure.
But like another NPer put it, nTLDs are .confusion and .confusion :)

If in doubt, buy newsmedia (/dotcom) from me.

If it was for a company, I would definitely use media.

If I was a reference site, I might use .news, although the sale of the 6 (?) names to a person who promotes conspiracy theories and anti-science news at sites like science(.)news is I think bad news for the reputation of the extension (despite the six figures the registry picked up in the sale). If my reference site was video heavy might well choose media even for a news site.

.news has about 60,000 registrations after just over 1100 days availability, and is pretty geographically spread: https://namestat.org/news

.media has about 42,000 after more than 1400 days availability, and is broadly spread geographically although US registrations dominate both .news and .media. Not surprisingly, relatively speaking .media is stronger than .news in Europe, somewhat. https://namestat.org/media

To me, for a company or organization, media feels more modern, as well as being a bit more multilingual.
